"Brian did a great job, we thought. He makes great catches in practice and makes them in the game. He's a tough guy. He's a very tough guy," Bowles said Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Miami Dolphins WR Brian Hartline said during a radio interview that he believes the lockout is hurting the offense because it is taking time away from the players to learn offensive coordinator Brian Daboll's new offense. "Without a doubt, missing OTAs and missing some of these things is definitely putting us back a little bit," Hartline said. "We'll probably need a little extra time. We can function on the level where the fan, and the average eye, might not understand. But the comfort in the huddle, and kind of being on the exact same page, is going to take a little longer time."

Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano singled out WRs Brian Hartline and Marlon Moore as speedy receivers already on the team's roster, reports Ben Volin, of the Palm Beach Post. "Brian (Hartline) can run," Sparano said. "I don't know that people would classify Brian as a speed guy, but I do. (Moore) might be the fastest guy that we have." WR Julius Pruitt, mostly a practice squad guy in 2010, also has elite speed.

With Brandon Marshall occupying one starting position, Hartline will battle with WRs Davone Bess and Greg Camarillo for the other. Salguero believes Hartline has the best intangibles when it comes to a combination of size and speed to win the job. Hartline spent time bulking up during the offseason because he wanted to add another dimension to his game instead of being a "little, quick guy."

The Miami Dolphins need to find a complement to WR Brandon Marshall in the starting lineup, reports Omar Kelly, of The Sun-Sentinel. Offensive coordinator Dan Henning loves a smart receiver, and he said WR Brian Hartline was the team's smartest receiver a year ago. Hartline led the Dolphins' receivers in yards per reception (16.3) and the team may want the player opposite Marshall to stretch the field. Hartline is considered the team's fastest option at receiver. He could unseat WR Greg Camarillo for a starting job and hold off Davone Bess.

Miami Dolphins WR Brian Hartline has not responded to a request by the Florida Highway Patrol to discuss the abandonment of a car registered to him that may have been involved in an accident, according to Harvey Fialkov, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. The police believe that Hartline's car damaged an abandoned car on the side of a highway July 3. The worst Hartline would face if he were involved is being charged with hitting an unattended vehicle and failing to report an accident, both of which are misdemeanors.

Fantasy Tip: The workload of Dolphins wideouts has been hit or miss all season. You still shouldn't count on Ginn to be an everyweek fantasy play, but his big-play ability means he could be depth on your roster. This removes Hartline from even deep fantasy consideration.

The deal is worth $2.2 million, but he could make up to $4 million if he reaches all of the incentives and escalator clauses. Hartline received a signing bonus of around $500,000.

Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano said rookie WR Brian Hartline is a very smart player and will have the ability to play a couple of different positions amongst the receivers. He noted Hartline has played an awful lot in the slot previously and that may be his strength. The Dolphins may also take a look at him on special teams as a returner or a gunner.
