New Orleans Saints first-round pick S Kenny Vaccaro is expected to push for one of the starting safety spots. General manager Mickey Loomis said the team would explore playing FS Malcolm Jenkins at nickel back to get Vaccaro on the field in nickel packages.

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said Tuesday, April 30, that the team is considering a scenario which will get S Kenny Vaccaro on the field. It would require moving FS Malcolm Jenkins to nickel cornerback on passing downs.

New Orleans Saints FS Malcolm Jenkins said he understands his future with the team is uncertain after the team added S Kenny Vaccaro. "When it comes to me, it puts a little bit of uncertainty as far as the future, but nothing in this game is guaranteed. It's part of the business," Jenkins said. "But what is guaranteed is an opportunity that we have this year that we have. I know Coach Payton is a big believer in this, and I wholeheartedly agree that competition breeds excellence. The best years that we've had is when we have a lot of competition for positions."

New Orleans Saints S Malcolm Jenkins, WR Lance Moore and OT Zach Strief all will receive increases in their base salary in 2013 because of incentives in their contracts. Jenkins will go from $2.264 million to $2.414 million, Moore will go from $2.5 million to $2.6 million and Streif will go from $1.925 million to $2.225 million.
