New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum takes full responsibility for drafting free-agent DL Vernon Gholston (Bears) with the sixth overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Gholston played just five games with the team in three seasons. "Ultimately, that was my decision," Tannenbaum said. "There were a lot of things we liked about Vernon: his measurables, production, and obviously it didn't work out. Why it didn't, we've looked at that quite a bit."

Chicago Bears DL Vernon Gholston remained on the sidelined in the preseason game Monday, Aug. 22, while DLs Nick Reed and Mario Addison entered before he did. Gholston had his best practice of training camp last week, but he is well down in the rotation.

Chicago Bears DLs Mario Addison and Vernon Gholston are seeing increased repetitions in practice with DL Corey Wootton (knee) injured. Addison is having a solid training camp, and the team is starting to see small improvements from Gholston. The Bears see Gholston as a better fit in a 4-3 defensive scheme.
