According to a high-ranking team source, the team will likely start Johnson in Week 9. However, the source said Johnson's obvious limitations within the offense might prompt head coach Wade Phillips and his staff to consider other options, including No. 3 QB Brooks Bollinger.

Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress said Tuesday, Jan. 2, QB Tarvaris Jackson and QB Brooks Bollinger will compete for the team's starting quarterback job next season. Childress is scheduled to meet with QB Brad Johnson Tuesday, Jan. 2, to discuss the quarterback's future. Although Johnson is under contract through 2008, Childress said he would not hold Johnson to that deal against his will. If Johnson were to remain on the roster he would serve in a "mentoring" capacity, Childress added.

KSTP.com reports two players from the Minnesota Vikings told 5 Eyewitness News a majority of the team's players are upset, frustrated and aggravated with head coach Brad Childress' offensive philosophies and his play-calling. The majority of players say Childress has been approached by players and coaches to try and jump start the offense. The players claim the system handcuffed QB Brad Johnson, who recently lost his starting job to QB Tarvaris Jackson. Johnson made repeated attempts and suggestions to Childress in hopes of improving the offense. The players do believe that Childress is well organized and well structured, but feel he needs to be more flexible in his play calls.

Rookie QB Tarvaris Jackson replaced him and completed 14 of 23 passes for 177 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Johnson was 10-of-17 for 96 yards with one touchdown before he was benched. While Johnson did not commit any turnovers, he was sacked three times for 28 yards. Head coach Brad Childress did not name a starting quarterback for the Week 16 game. "We'll just see who gives us the best chance to win," Childress said.
