Angels | New timeline for David Freese

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 14:58:12 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) will play third base for Class AAA Salt Lake this weekend, and there is a chance he rejoins the Angels during their current road trip

Fantasy Tip: The Angels are on the road until Wednesday, Sept. 2, so that means Freese ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is nearing a return. You'll want to be patient with him in all formats upon his return, as he hasn't played since Wednesday, July 22. Kaleb Cowart's ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) minimal fantasy value will plummet once Freese returns.

Angels | David Freese could return this month

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 10:43:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) could be activated from the disabled list before rosters are expanded in September. He threw from a distance of 120 feet Friday, Aug. 21, and will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Class AAA Salt Lake Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: The Halos have gotten little offensive production from the hot corner since Freese ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) went on the DL, so his return to the lineup will be welcomed. He is batting .240 with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs through 90 games.

Angels | David Freese starting rehab Sunday

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 16:26:37 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) will start his minor league rehab assignment with Class AAA Salt Lake City Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Freese ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is taking longer than expected to return from his injury, but he could be back after a couple rehab games if he avoids any setbacks. Kaleb Cowart has been starting at third for the Angels, but he's not really useful in any fantasy format, especially with Freese expected back soon.

Angels | David Freese making slow progress

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 15:43:51 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) is making slow progress with his throwing, according to manager Mike Scioscia. Freese is not ready for a rehab assignment at Class AAA Salt Lake.

Fantasy Tip: Those in much deeper leagues will have to stay patient with Freese. Conor Gillaspie ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) should continue to see the majority of starts at the hot corner in Freese's absence. He started out hot with the Angels but has cooled off considerable. Gillaspie should only be owned in AL-only leagues for the short term, and he's a very mediocre sleeper pick on FantasyScore.

Angels | David Freese might begin rehab soon

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 21:29:31 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) might begin a minor-leaguer rehab assignment as early as this weekend. He was able to take batting practice Monday, Aug. 10, but he is still 65-70 percent with his throwing, according to manager Mike Scioscia.

Fantasy Tip: Freese ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is a solid mid-level FantasyScore option once he returns, but give him a few games to knock off the rust before trusting him again.

Angels | Conor Gillaspie to remain at 3B

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 16:33:20 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Conor Gillaspie will continue to be the starting third baseman with 3B David Freese (finger) on the disabled list. He's hitting just .186 in 12 games with the Angels, but he has contributed some key hits early on in his time with the team. However, it will be tough for the Angels to find room on the roster to keep Gillaspie when Freese returns in the near future. The Angels are working Gillaspie at first base, so he could take 1B C.J. Cron's roster spot until rosters expand in September.

Fantasy Tip: Gillaspie's ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) short-term value, mainly in AL-only leagues, is nearing its end. If you've been using him in those cavernous leagues, be prepared to move on. On FantasyScore, he remains a low-end daily commodity without much offensive upside.

Angels | David Freese approximately a week away

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 14:13:14 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) said he is a couple days from being able to throw and hopes to return in a week after a rehab assignment with Class AAA Salt Lake City.

Fantasy Tip: Freese ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) boasts respectable counting stats due to hitting in the heart of a solid lineup, but his .240 batting average hasn't done fantasy owners any favors. FantasyScore players will want to avoid him outside of plus-matchups. Conor Gillaspie's ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) fleeting value in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues will end with Freese's activation.

Angels | David Freese could return next week

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 17:02:10 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) is expected to return to action during next week's road trip, following a brief minor league rehab assignment, according to manager Mike Scioscia.

Fantasy Tip: Freese ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) was batting .240 with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs through 90 games before landing on the disabled list with a broken right index finger. Conor Gillaspie ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) will continue to see most of the playing time at the hot corner for the Halos until Freese returns, with Taylor Featherston ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) seeing some action against lefties. Neither player is a great FantasyScore option.

Angels | David Freese hitting soft toss

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 16:29:12 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) is hitting soft toss but is having some trouble throwing. There is no timetable for his return.

Fantasy Tip: Conor Gillaspie ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has been starting the majority of the time at the hot corner with Freese out. He doesn't offer a ton of offensive upside despite getting off to a good start in an Angels uni. Gillaspie is, at best, a short-term fill-in for AL-only owners.

Angels | David Freese could return soon

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 19:27:11 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) said Tuesday, Aug. 4, that he might be back in the lineup by next week.

Fantasy Tip: Freese ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and knock off the rust in a game or two before trusting him again.
