MLB | David Freese unlikely to return to Angels

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 15:05:08 -0800

Free-agent 3B David Freese (Angels) is not expected to return to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim because the team recently acquired 3B Yunel Escobar.

Fantasy Tip: Freese has flashed some upside throughout his career, and he can string together nice runs. However, honing in at him at FantasyScore during a hot stretch is better than saddling your yearly team with him in the majority of formats. Stay tuned for updates on where Freese signs.

Angels | LAA could bring back David Freese

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 17:54:23 -0800

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have had talks with free-agent 3B David Freese (Angels) about a return, according to general manager Billy Eppler.

Fantasy Tip: Freese hit .257 with 14 home runs and 56 RBIs in 2015 but only played in 121 regular-season games because of finger and hamstring injuries. He's a steady but unspectacular player who should only be a fantasy option in single-universe or deep mixed leagues.

Angels | No qualifying offer for David Freese

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 12:14:59 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese was not offered a $15.8 million qualifying offer.

Fantasy Tip: Since joining the Angels, Freese has posted a .258/.322/.401 slash line over the past two season and rarely moved the fantasy needle to warrant attention in the majority of seasonal leagues. Entering his age-33 season, it is unlikely Freese can produce as anything more than a deep mixed league option in 2016.

Angels | David Freese hopes to stay with Angels

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 17:20:12 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim impending free-agent 3B David Freese would like to re-sign with the Angels this offseason, and the team is expected to strongly consider bringing Freese back.

Fantasy Tip: Freese saw a small dip in his batting average this season but still hit .257 with 14 home runs and 56 RBI during the regular season. Freese probably will be able to find a starting job no matter where he signs this offseason and could be an option in deeper leagues.

Angels | David Freese finishing the season strong

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 13:52:29 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese is batting .358 since returning from the disabled list Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Historically, Freese ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has been a streaky hitter, so jumping on the bandwagon isn't out of the question in all fantasy formats, especially at this stage of the season. Freese also stands as a solid value play at FantasyScore against Minnesota Twins SP Mike Pelfrey Friday, Sept. 18.

Angels | David Freese activated, starting

Tue, 01 Sep 2015 16:25:13 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) was activated from the disabled list and is in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Cody Martin Tuesday, Sept. 1. Freese is hitting seventh in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Freese ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) should return to a regular role at the hot corner for the Halos, so look to add him in deeper mixed leagues if he's available and you're in need at a corner infield spot. Starting him on FantasyScore tonight would be an under-the-radar play in his first game back against a weaker starter.

Angels | New timeline for David Freese

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 14:58:12 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) will play third base for Class AAA Salt Lake this weekend, and there is a chance he rejoins the Angels during their current road trip

Fantasy Tip: The Angels are on the road until Wednesday, Sept. 2, so that means Freese ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is nearing a return. You'll want to be patient with him in all formats upon his return, as he hasn't played since Wednesday, July 22. Kaleb Cowart's ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) minimal fantasy value will plummet once Freese returns.

Angels | David Freese could return this month

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 10:43:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) could be activated from the disabled list before rosters are expanded in September. He threw from a distance of 120 feet Friday, Aug. 21, and will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Class AAA Salt Lake Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: The Halos have gotten little offensive production from the hot corner since Freese ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) went on the DL, so his return to the lineup will be welcomed. He is batting .240 with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs through 90 games.

Angels | David Freese starting rehab Sunday

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 16:26:37 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) will start his minor league rehab assignment with Class AAA Salt Lake City Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Freese ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is taking longer than expected to return from his injury, but he could be back after a couple rehab games if he avoids any setbacks. Kaleb Cowart has been starting at third for the Angels, but he's not really useful in any fantasy format, especially with Freese expected back soon.

Angels | David Freese making slow progress

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 15:43:51 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B David Freese (finger) is making slow progress with his throwing, according to manager Mike Scioscia. Freese is not ready for a rehab assignment at Class AAA Salt Lake.

Fantasy Tip: Those in much deeper leagues will have to stay patient with Freese. Conor Gillaspie ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) should continue to see the majority of starts at the hot corner in Freese's absence. He started out hot with the Angels but has cooled off considerable. Gillaspie should only be owned in AL-only leagues for the short term, and he's a very mediocre sleeper pick on FantasyScore.
