Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa hurls six no-hit innings

Mon, 13 May 2013 00:32:45 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa, who has had one complete game in his major-league career, held the St. Louis Cardinals hitless for the first six innings Sunday, May 12, at Busch Stadium before 3B David Freese singled past the sprawling attempt of Rockies 1B Jordan Pacheco with two out in the seventh.

Cardinals | Jon Jay has successful road trip

Wed, 08 May 2013 15:50:17 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay went 1-for-3 and had two RBIs Wednesday, May 8, and hit .500 (10-for-20) with a home run and eight RBIs on the team's road trip. He was even moved up to sixth in the order Wednesday at the expense of struggling 3B David Freese.

Fantasy Tip: Jay's mechanical adjustments seem to be paying immediate dividends for him at the plate. When Jay is swinging the bat well, he should be owned in most mixed leagues. If he's available, consider picking him back up while he's feeling comfortable.

Cardinals | David Freese back in lineup

Thu, 02 May 2013 15:30:34 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B David Freese is back in the lineup Thursday, May 2, and 2B Matt Carpenter is hitting leadoff. Carpenter had three hits Wednesday, May 1, and Freese hasn't hit the ball out of the infield in 13 straight at-bats. He's hitless in his last 16 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: It's probably safest to keep Freese out of your fantasy lineup until he gets things going. By now, if you own Freese, you should have made alternate plans at the hot corner to deal with his slow start.

Cardinals | David Freese sitting

Wed, 24 Apr 2013 07:18:16 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B David Freese is out of the lineup Wednesday, April 24, and 1B Allen Craig is hitting second in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Craig is hitting just .245, but he does have 15 RBIs. The Cards use the two-hole often to help break a player out of a slump. It might not happen today, though, because they're facing Stephen Strasburg.

Cardinals | David Freese cleared for Monday

Sun, 07 Apr 2013 20:56:34 -0700

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals 3B David Freese (back) has been cleared to come off the 15-day disabled list Monday, April 8.

Fantasy Tip: It is safe to activate Freese in all fantasy leagues for the upcoming week. With Freese back, Matt Carpenter shifts back over to second base where he will see a majority of his playing time. With Freese back, INF Daniel Descalso likely loses the most in terms of fantasy appeal since his at-bats are likely to be halved.

Cardinals | David Freese plays rehab game

Fri, 05 Apr 2013 21:46:59 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B David Freese (back) played in the first game of a doubleheader for Triple-A Memphis Friday, April 5. He batted third and played third base in the first minor-league rehab game, and did not make a play in the field. Manager Mike Matheny said the team will evaluate how Freese feels before deciding when he will return to the big club. "We'll hear how that goes and see how he feels. We've got Saturday and Sunday to play with, too, before we make any kind of decision," Matheny said.

Fantasy Tip: Freese could return for the beginning of next week, but he is a risky play until he actually plays in a big league game and proves his health without any setbacks. Keep him reserved in all fantasy formats for now.
