Pirates | Jung-ho Kang not starting Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 14:00:04 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Jung Ho Kang is not starting Saturday, May 28, against the Texas Rangers. 3B David Freese will bat fourth against Rangers SP Yu Darvish.

Fantasy Tip: This is a normal day off for Kang, who has a .412 batting average and .706 slugging percentage in the last week. Freese has a .288 average and six hits in his last four games. He's worth starting in all formats from DFS to annual, as Freese finds his way into the lineup pretty much every day.

Pirates | David Freese batting third vs. Rangers

Fri, 27 May 2016 14:07:05 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B David Freese is starting at third base and batting third against Texas Rangers SP Cole Hamels Friday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Freese has handled left-handed pitchers well with a .272/.351/.457 slash line dating back to the beginning of the 2014 season and is a potential value play in daily contests Friday, especially hitting in the heart of the lineup. Freese has lost a lot of fantasy value since Jung Ho Kang has returned from the disabled list, though, as Freese has received just 44 plate appearances over eight starts. Freese should be left to cavernous mixed and NL-only formats going forward.

Pirates | Two Pirates sitting Thursday

Thu, 26 May 2016 07:41:23 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B John Jaso and 2B Josh Harrison are out of the lineup Thursday, May 26, with 1B David Freese hitting third and 2B Sean Rodriguez hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Freese homered yesterday and is hitting .350 against lefties this year. He's a solid option against Patrick Corbin. Rodriguez is hitting just .258 this month after a fast start. He hits lefties much better than righties, though, and he's a low-end option.

Wed, 25 May 2016 21:00:54 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B David Freese went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI against the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday, May 25.

Fantasy Tip: Freese has become a bench player since Jung Ho Kang has returned but has received starts at first base against left-handed pitchers. He is hitting .277 this season and can be used by owners in daily fantasy leagues when he is in the lineup.

Pirates | Jung Ho Kang, Francisco Cervelli out

Wed, 25 May 2016 12:39:57 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Jung Ho Kang and C Francisco Cervelli are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 25. 3B David Freese is starting at third base and is hitting fifth, while C Chris Stewart is behind the plate and batting eighth against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa.

Fantasy Tip: This is Cervelli's second straight day sitting, so he may be dealing with an injury. Check back for more updates. Stewart is batting .229 after going 1-for-3 last night and is a very low-end catching option in DFS action. Freese has been respectable for the Pirates this year, batting .276 with two home runs and 12 RBI, and he could have an opportunity to drive in plenty of runs as a value pick.

Mon, 23 May 2016 07:36:28 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Jung Ho Kang (hand) is out of the lineup Monday, May 23, with 3B David Freese hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Freese is hitting .349 at home, where he faces Jordan Lyles. He has upside as a lower-middle option in DFS.

Pirates | Andrew McCutchen returns to lineup

Sun, 22 May 2016 08:53:00 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen is back in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis Sunday, May 22, batting second. In addition, INF David Freese will bat fifth and play third base, while INF Sean Rodriguez will play shortstop and bat eighth. 3B Jung Ho Kang (hand) and SS Jordy Mercer are receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Freese is 4-for-12 at the plate over the past week and is batting .349 at home this season, so he should be viewed as a potential value play at the hot corner in daily fantasy contests. Rodriguez is another source of productive cap relief, with four homers and 14 RBI in just 54 at-bats.

Sat, 21 May 2016 18:35:03 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Jung Ho Kang (hand) was replaced by 3B David Freese against the Colorado Rockies Saturday, May 21, after injuring his hand while sliding into home plate.

Fantasy Tip: Stay tuned for an update on Kang's injury, but he is worth holding on to in all formats for now.

Pirates | Jung Ho Kang sitting Friday

Fri, 20 May 2016 11:43:35 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Jung Ho Kang is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 20. 3B David Freese is starting at the hot corner and is hitting sixth against Colorado Rockies SP Eddie Butler.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like a normal day off for Kang. Freese has been decent for the Bucs, hitting .280 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 125 at-bats. He won't hit a ton of homers and doesn't run, but he's in a decent spot to drive in runs Friday as a midrange DFS play.

Pirates | Jung Ho Kang sitting vs. Atlanta

Mon, 16 May 2016 12:21:48 -0700

Pittsburgh Penguins 3B Jung Ho Kang is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 16. 3B David Freese is starting at third base and batting fourth against Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Freese is a potential low-priced flier in daily contests Monday because of his solid .361 on-base percentage this year and favorable spot in the lineup. Still, Freese's seasonal value is evaporating with Kang's return. Kang has started six consecutive games at the hot corner before Monday, and he has five runs, four home runs and eight RBI through his first eight games of the season. Kang should be owned in all formats.
