Yankees | Gregorio Petit lands on DL

Wed, 06 May 2015 19:50:36 -0700

The New York Yankees placed INF Gregorio Petit (hand) on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, May 6, due to a bruised right hand.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy and in the starting lineup the reserve infielder is only worth using in FantasyScore as a salary saver option.

Yankees | Chase Headley sitting Tuesday

Tue, 05 May 2015 14:14:40 -0700

New York Yankees 3B Chase Headley is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 5. SS Gregorio Petit is starting at the hot corner and hitting ninth in the batting order against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada.

Fantasy Tip: Petit ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has just six hits in 31 at-bats (.194) in backup duty for the Yanks this year, and this light-hitting utility infielder should be ignored everywhere.

Yankees | Gregorio Petit in starting lineup

Sat, 02 May 2015 08:10:43 -0700

New York Yankees SS Gregorio Petit is starting at second base Saturday, May 2.

Fantasy Tip: Petit has not had much success at the plate this season and is entering the game with a .192 batting average. Petit should not be used in most fantasy leagues.

Yankees | Didi Gregorius riding pine Friday

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 13:31:36 -0700

New York Yankees SS Didi Gregorius is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Wade Miley Friday, April 10. SS Stephen Drew is starting at shortstop and hitting eighth in the lineup, while INF Gregorio Petit is starting at second base and hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Both Drew ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) and Petit ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) are both weak options at FantasyScore Friday with plenty of other middle infield candidates to choose from that give you more offensive upside.

Yankees | Three NY starters sitting Thursday

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 12:29:29 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner, C Brian McCann and 2B Stephen Drew are not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Daniel Norris Thursday, April 9. OF Chris Young is starting in left field and hitting sixth, C J.R. Murphy is catching and hitting seventh and INF Gregorio Petit is starting at the keystone and hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: With the Yanks facing a southpaw, it makes sense that Gardner, McCann and Drew - all lefty swingers - have the day off. Young ($3,000, 6.0% of cap), Murphy ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Petit don't move the needle at all at FantasyScore.

Yankees | Robert Refsnyder sent down

Thu, 02 Apr 2015 12:30:50 -0700

New York Yankees 2B Robert Refsnyder was reassigned to minor league camp Thursday, April 2, after hitting .333 in spring training. Manager Joe Girardi praised Refsnyder for his work ethic, but the Yankees acquired INF Gregorio Petit from the Houston Astros Wednesday, April 1. "Refsnyder, I think he had a tremendous camp, but (he's had) maybe 240 games at second base so far," general manager Brian Cashman said. "He just needs to finish off some more defense. If we needed to use him, we'd be comfortable enough, but at the same time you guys saw in camp he's got some work to do on the defensive side." Refsnyder made six errors in 23 spring games.

Fantasy Tip: The Yanks prefer if Refsnyder sees everyday playing time in the minors to work on his defense, but the 24-year-old could easily be up in the Bronx soon, especially if Stephen Drew flames out again with the bat. For now, Refsnyder is a stash candidate in deep AL-only leagues.

Giants | Tim Hudson behind in camp

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 09:58:35 -0800

San Francisco Giants SP Tim Hudson (ankle) is behind in his preseason preparation because of his right ankle surgery, according to manager Bruce Bochy. However, SPs Ryan Vogelsong or Gregorio Petit could step in for Hudson if needed.

Fantasy Tip: At Hudson's age (39), we wouldn't be surprised at all if he's not ready for the regular season. Vogelsong and Petit could easily be asked to take over for Hudson during the year, too, if he's not performing up to standards. Hudson should be left to the waiver wire in standard leagues.

Giants | Tim Lincecum the No. 5 starter

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 09:48:34 -0800

San Francisco Giants SP Tim Lincecum has all but been named the No. 5 starter by manager Bruce Bochy. SPs Ryan Vogelsong and Gregorio Petit will start the year in the bullpen, because Bochy prefers not to have a six-man rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Lincecum will likely open as the No. 5 starter, but that spot could be a revolving door between the three as the year progresses based on performance and rest needs. As a result, there's not much intrigue surrounding Lincecum in a standard 12-team league. He's more of a candidate for an NL-only pitching staff.
