Cincinnati Reds third-base coach Mark Berry said that he has cancer in his tonsil and lymph nodes. However, it was detected early and has not spread from the left side of his neck, according to Dr. Tim Kremchek. He has not yet decided if he will undergo radiation or surgery but if he opts for the former, he would not be able to travel and his work schedule would be limited. Bench coach Chris Speier had been filling in for Berry in his absence.

Updating previous reports, Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker (heart) is remaining in the hospital for another day as a precautionary measure and could be released as soon as Sunday, Sept. 23. Bench coach Chris Speier is running the team in Baker's absence.

Cincinnati Reds bench coach Chris Speier coached third base in place of Mark Berry Friday, Sept. 10, because Berry was experiencing back stiffness, according to John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer.
