Red Sox | Clay Buchholz injury update

Mon, 10 Jun 2013 17:18:21 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (neck) has made some progress with his neck issue, but is likely to miss his next start. Buchholz is not expected to miss much time after that though. "He feels better today," said manager John Farrell. "Over the next couple of days, we'll get a better idea of when his next start will line up. Most importantly, he feels improved over (Sunday). He's going to be pushed back (from his scheduled bullpen) a couple of days at a minimum, but we'll take the same approach we did last time (when Buchholz got skipped after experiencing some soreness in his AC joint) - once everything is cleared up, that's when he's going to go.

Fantasy Tip: If you are counting on Buchholz this week, it would be wise to get him out of your starting lineup now and look for an alternative to fill the roster spot. It should be seen as positive news that he is not expected to miss much more than one start though.

Red Sox | Biogenesis scandal not expected to hurt team

Wed, 05 Jun 2013 20:02:13 -0700

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said Wednesday, June 5, that he is confident that none of his players will be suspended by Major League Baseball regarding performance-enhancing drugs purchased at the Biogenesis clinic in Miami. "I'm confident, yes," Farrell said. "I know there's been some preliminary notice that none of our players are on it, but knowing them more first-hand as people, I certainly would be shocked if anybody does show up on it based on what we know about it."

Red Sox | Manager encouraged with Ryan Dempster

Mon, 27 May 2013 16:50:41 -0700

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell was encouraged with SP Ryan Dempster after his latest throwing session. "He's been pushing the ball, and from a timing standpoint in his delivery, he's just been out of sync somewhat," Farrell said. "His side session the other day was encouraging from the standpoint of being able to repeat that delivery, and that's what we'll need from him tomorrow."

Fantasy Tip: After starting strong, Dempster has had rough outings in his last three starts. Good news that he has made some adjustments to help get back on track in his next start.

Mon, 04 Mar 2013 07:42:15 -0800

Toronto Blue Jays OF Colby Rasmus ripped former manager John Farrell with recent comments about handling stressful situations. "I'm not trying to bash anybody by starting up crap, but I think John Gibbons has got a little bit of a better idea of how to handle it," Rasmus said, "just because I don't see him as a guy that's going to hit that panic button and get tight and into kind of freak-out mode."

Red Sox | Have options with Alfredo Aceves

Mon, 18 Feb 2013 22:26:54 -0800

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell and pitching coach Juan Nieves had to talk to RP Alfredo Aceves Sunday, Feb. 17, after the pitcher spent what was supposed to be live batting practice lobbing pitches softly toward home plate. The team appears to be willing to work with Aceves this spring with the hope he will improve his rocky standing with the team before they explore options of releasing or trading him. He has a non-guaranteed contract of $2.65 million for 2013. Boston would have to pay him only $434,426, or one-sixth his salary, if he is released before March 13, or it will cost $651,639 (one-fourth) if he is released on or before March 27. The Red Sox could release him and owe Aceves nothing based on the citizenship clause in his contract if he passes unclaimed through waivers. Such a scenario likely would go to arbitration, however.
