Mets | Daniel Murphy not running

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 09:48:13 -0700

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) plans to play in a minor league game Monday, March 30, but he will continue to avoid running. He has jogged to first base in recent games and hasn't been allowed to run the bases. Murphy took ground balls Monday, and general manager Sandy Alderson said Murphy will be held out of Grapefruit League games this week, which would allow the team to backdate a disabled list stint.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy's ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) injury doesn't appear to be too serious, but his chances of opening up the regular season on the DL appear likely. That means you should shy away from using him at FantasyScore right off the bat.

Mets | Opener unlikely for Daniel Murphy?

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 13:19:51 -0700

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) may have a tough time making it back in time for opening day, and the team is starting to sound pessimistic about his chances. Murphy will only play in minor league games next week if he can.

Fantasy Tip: Danny Muno and Matt Reynolds are in consideration to start at the keystone on opening day if Murphy ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) isn't ready, but neither should really move the fantasy needle, since Murphy's injury doesn't seem too serious. Look to avoid Murphy during the opening week of FantasyScore.

Mets | Daniel Murphy does some running

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 12:56:56 -0700

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) did some running Thursday, March 26, and did not appear to have any problems.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy ($4,700, 9.4% of the cap) appears to be making progress from his injury, but there is still a question about whether will be ready for opening day. Owners on FantasyScore may want to wait for him to be 100% before using him.

Mets | Daniel Murphy hopeful for opening day

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 12:24:41 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) is still on track to be available for opening day Monday, April 6, against the Washington Nationals, according to the team.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Murphy ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is ready, opening the season against the front end of Washington's pitching staff is daunting for daily contests. It would be wise to pass on Murphy in FantasyScore contests until he proves his health and lands in a more favorable matchup. Danny Muno and Matt Reynolds are candidates to fill any void due to Murphy's injury, but neither have fantasy value in the majority of formats.

Mets | Daniel Murphy doing activities

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 10:51:30 -0700

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) resumed baseball activities Wednesday, March 25, while hitting off a tee and taking throws at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy is questionable for opening day with his hamstring pull. If he misses time, Danny Muno or Matt Reynolds could start at the keystone, but they are strictly names for deep NL-only leagues.

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) continues to miss time due to a strained right hamstring.

Mets | Daniel Murphy could begin season on DL

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 15:31:14 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) may begin the season on the disabled list, according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Murphy underwent an MRI Friday, March 20, which revealed the injury is more serious than the original diagnosis of "tightness." "He'll be out a week or so, maybe a little longer," Alderson said. "Hamstrings take longer than people want to admit." Prospects Matt Reynolds and Danny Muno -- neither projected to make the team at the start of camp -- would be the primary candidates to start if Murphy is unavailable, Alderson added.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy is a proven option available late in drafts, as he chips in across all categories. It is worth noting his value is highest in points leagues, because of his propensity to hit doubles opposed to round trippers. Expect his draft stock to fall slightly with the injury news. Reynolds and Muno could warrant attention in daily formats, if Murphy does indeed miss time to start the season. Their value is minimal otherwise, though. Continue to check back for updates on Murphy's recovery and return timeline.

Mets | Daniel Murphy out a week

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 13:57:59 -0700

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) is dealing with a pulled hamstring, and he'll miss at least a week. INFs Danny Muno and Matt Reynolds are options to play second base on opening day if Murphy isn't ready.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy will give you veteran help at the keystone in the later rounds of standard 12-team mixed leagues, but his price will likely drop even more now that he's hurt. Muno and Reynolds are nothing more than roster fillers in very deep NL-only leagues.

Mets | Daniel Murphy with hamstring tightness

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 10:29:54 -0700

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hamstring) left the game early Thursday, March 19, with hamstring tightness while running the bases.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets are likely being cautious here, but keep an eye on Murphy's status moving forward. Murphy currently ranks 16th in our fantasy second base rankings. He'll give you a mild mix of power and speed at the keystone in the late middle rounds. Don't expect a return to the 23 stolen bases he had in 2013.

Mets | Daniel Murphy taking batting practice

Sun, 08 Mar 2015 08:21:38 -0700

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (hand) is taking batting practice Sunday, March 8, in order to test his injured hand.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy probably will miss a few spring training games, but it looks like he should be ready for the start of the season. Murphy could be an option in the later middle rounds as a second baseman that can help owners with his batting average and some power.
