The Cincinnati Reds could look outside the organization to replace 2B Brandon Phillips (thumb), according to manager Bryan Price. Price said OF Donald Lutz and 1B Neftali Soto are not suited for the role.

The Cincinnati Reds activated 1B Joey Votto (quadriceps) from the disabled list Tuesday, June 10, and optioned OF Donald Lutz to Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: Return Votto to your starting lineups right away.

The Cincinnati Reds recalled OF Donald Lutz from Triple-A Louisville Friday, May 23, and optioned 1B Neftali Soto to Louisville in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: With Soto being sent down, expect Lutz to fill in at first base with Joey Votto (quadriceps) on the shelf. Lutz is a temporary desperation fill-in in NL-only leagues.

The Cincinnati Reds are strapped for healthy outfielders at all levels of the organization, as OF Ryan LaMarre is injured and on the 7-day disabled list at Triple-A Louisville, OFs Donald Lutz and Yorman Rodriguez are hurt at Double-A Pensacola and OF Jesse Winker (concussion) is injured for Class A Bakersfield. Even if the team wanted to make a roster move to replace the injured OF Billy Hamilton (knuckles) with the big club, it's uncertain who could come up.

Cincinnati Reds OF Roger Bernadina, who was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Monday, May 5, will be brought back to the parent club on Tuesday. OF Jay Bruce (knee) will be out for up to four weeks, and OF prospect Donald Lutz is battling injuries. Bernadina's contract has to be selected, so that will require a corresponding move to the roster.

The Cincinnati Reds optioned P Carlos Contreras, P Daniel Corcino, P David Holmberg, OF Ryan LaMarre, OF Donald Lutz and P Chad Rogers to Triple-A Louisville. The Reds also sent OF Juan Duran, P Ismael Guillon and OF Yorman Rodriguez to Double-A Pensacola of the Southern League. The Cincinnati Reds activated OF Chris Heisey (hamstring) from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, June 25, and optioned OF Donald Lutz to the minors in a corresponding move. Also, INF Henry X. Rodriguez was called up.
Fantasy Tip: Heisey will likely go back to some sort of platoon role in left field, probably with some combination of Xavier Paul and Derrick Robinson. Heisey should be owned in all NL leagues, but should only be considered in deep mixed formats with deep outfield arrangements.
Wed, 19 Jun 2013 14:37:51 -0700
Cincinnati Reds OF Chris Heisey (hamstring) went 2-for-4 with Triple-A Louisville Monday, June 17, and will play again for Louisville Wednesday, June 19.
Fantasy Tip: Heisey seems close to returning to the Reds, which will likely mean Donald Lutz will be sent back to the minors. Heisey could split left field duties with Xavier Paul when he comes back. Because Heisey likely won't play every day when he's back, he's more of an NL-only commodity.
Thu, 16 May 2013 15:39:17 -0700
Cincinnati Reds OF Chris Heisey's (hamstring) hamstring setback isn't severe, but he won't be back any time soon. Heisey won't return until at least the team's next homestand, at the earliest.
Fantasy Tip: Xavier Paul has been starting in left field with Heisey out, and he'll continue to benefit from his absence. Donald Lutz, who was recalled when Heisey was initially injured, has been the first bat off the bench. Paul is an NL-only commodity, at best.
Tue, 14 May 2013 14:01:44 -0700
Cincinnati Reds OF Chris Heisey (hamstring) re-strained his hamstring and has been taken off his rehab assignment. He will return to Cincinnati to be re-evaluated, and the team doesn't know how serious his injury is.
Fantasy Tip: Xavier Paul and Donald Lutz will continue to benefit from Heisey being out a little longer. Both Paul and Lutz should be left for cavernous NL-only leagues.
