Tigers | Mike Aviles joins Tigers

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 16:13:46 -0800

Free-agent SS Mike Aviles (Indians) agreed to a one-year deal with the Detroit Tigers Friday, Dec. 18, according to sources. Aviles hit .231 with five home runs and 17 RBI in 98 games with the Cleveland Indians in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles' real-life value comes as a super-utility player that can play basically everywhere in the infield. He'll strictly be a bench guy for Detroit, most likely. He has limited power and doesn't do anything exceptionally well, so he's only a depth piece in really deep AL-only formats.

Indians | Michael Brantley still out

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 10:35:07 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) remains out of the lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, Sept. 30. SS Mike Aviles is in left field and hitting ninth against Twins SP Kyle Gibson.

Fantasy Tip: The early doubleheaders won't be available on FantasyScore, so you can ignore Aviles. Brantley ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) is probably unlikely to play in the nightcap, either, so you should look to avoid him. He may need to sit out for the remainder of the season.

Indians | Chris Johnson out Tuesday

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 13:46:57 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Chris Johnson is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 29, against the Minnesota Twins. 3B Mike Aviles is batting ninth against Twins SP Kyle Gibson.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has seen regular playing time but has a .160 average in the past week, so the Indians are resting him for the day to try a different lineup. Aviles ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has a .571 average against Gibson, so he might be a good low-cost option for your lineup.

Indians | Michael Brantley out again

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 14:02:12 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Sept. 24. SS Mike Aviles is starting in left field and batting ninth against Minnesota Twins SP Kyle Gibson Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) leads the American League in doubles (45) and has 84 RBI with a .314/.381/.486 slash line this season. He is worth holding onto in the majority of seasonal leagues, as the injury was expected to be minor. Aviles ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) owns a .616 OPS over the past two seasons and is nothing more than a desperation flier at FantasyScore Thursday.

Indians | Michael Brantley sitting vs. Twins

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 14:28:09 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 23. SS Mike Aviles is starting in left field and batting ninth against Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Brantley ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) was a game-time decision Wednesday, so it is unlikely he misses a significant amount of time, if any more at all. Aviles ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) enters a potentially solid matchup against Hughes ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) who has allowed a 1.75 HR/9 this season. Still, Aviles has a .623 OPS and is nothing more than a desperation flier for FantasyScore contests Wednesday.

Indians | Francisco Lindor receiving a breather

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 13:58:31 -0700

Cleveland Indians SS Francisco Lindor is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 8. SS Mike Aviles is starting at the 6 and is hitting second against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is a player you shouldn't want to count on at FantasyScore, even when he's starting and hitting high in the batting order. The veteran infielder is hitting just .223 (55-for-247) with five home runs and 14 RBI on the year.

Indians | Jason Kipnis resting Monday

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 09:06:38 -0700

Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis is out of the lineup Monday, Sept. 7, with 2B Mike Aviles hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has the misfortune of facing Chris Sale today and isn't a great FantasyScore option.

Indians | Giovanny Urshela will not start

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 14:03:16 -0700

Cleveland Indians 3B Giovanny Urshela is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP David Price Monday, Aug. 31. SS Mike Aviles will start at third base and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Urshela ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) likely will return to the lineup in the near future. Aviles ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has six hits in his last 10 games and is not the best option for owners on FantasyScore.

Indians | Abraham Almonte sitting out

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 13:42:42 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Abraham Almonte is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Andrew Heaney Friday, Aug. 28. SS Mike Aviles will start in center field and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Almonte ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) likely will return to the starting lineup in the next game or two. Aviles ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is hitting only .209 this month and is not a strong candidate on FantasyScore.

Indians | Abraham Almonte sitting out

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 09:36:47 -0700

Cleveland Indians OF Abraham Almonte is not in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 24. SS Mike Aviles is starting in center field and batting sixth against Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has a little bit better numbers against lefties (.233-3-8) than against righties (.212-1-5) this year, but he's not an offensive force and usually struggled to fill up the stat sheet when he's in there. He's a weak FantasyScore option today.
