Sun, 19 May 2013 18:39:31 -0700 Cleveland Indians 3B Mark Reynolds takes over as the team's regular third baseman following the demotion of 3B Lonnie Chisenhall to Triple-A Columbus. While Reynolds had 26 errors at third base in 114 games, he will start there regularly. INF Mike Aviles and OF Ryan Raburn can also play third base.
Tue, 14 May 2013 15:20:44 -0700 Cleveland Indians 3B Mark Reynolds will be the primary third baseman with 3B Lonnie Chisenhall being sent to Triple-A Columbus. "Mark will get the majority of the time at third," said manager Terry Francona. "Mike Aviles can play there as well." Reynolds is leading the American League with 11 home runs, is third in slugging percentage at .598 and fifth in RBIs with 32. Fantasy Tip: Reynolds is swinging a red-hot stick, and playing regularly defensively could help him sustain his hot pace. Aviles could be mixed in every now and then, giving him a tad bit more value in AL-only leagues.
Mon, 13 May 2013 11:37:39 -0700 Cleveland Indians 3B Mark Reynolds started the first game of a doubleheader at third base Monday, May 13, but SS Mike Aviles can also play the hot corner after the team optioned 3B Lonnie Chisenhall to Triple-A Columbus. Fantasy Tip: Reynolds is already owned in all formats, but Aviles should now be picked up in AL-only leagues and considered in deep mixed formats as corner infield depth.
Tue, 07 May 2013 14:54:39 -0700 Cleveland Indians 3B Lonnie Chisenhall will receive a few days off to work on his swing with hitting coach Ty Van Burkleo. Chisenhall will be back in the lineup Wednesday, May 8. He's hitting only .231 (18-for-78) with four doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs, including just .095 (2-for-21) against left-handers and .281 (16-for-57) against righties. "Lonnie is going to make his living on fastballs," said manager Terry Francona. "Right now he's fouling them off down along the left field line as opposed to getting the head of the bat to it." Fantasy Tip: You'll have to do without Chisenhall for the next couple days. Mike Aviles will likely fill in at the hot corner, and he could continue to take playing time away from Chisenhall if he doesn't improve against southpaws. Keep an eye on this situation and how it evolves when Chisenhall returns.
Mon, 29 Apr 2013 18:24:17 -0700 Cleveland Indians SS Asdrubal Cabrera left the team's game in the 6th inning Monday, April 29, with the Indians leading 8-0. Cabrera was replaced by INF Mike Aviles. Fantasy Tip: Nothing to be concerned with here, as Cabrera was likely pulled for rest with a big lead after playing 24 innings in two days.
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 21:28:33 -0700 Cleveland Indians INF Mike Aviles will open the regular season on the bench as a utility player. He has served as a regular in the past, as has OF Ryan Raburn. Manager Terry Francona understands the transition back to reserve status. "The hardest thing will be the first couple weeks of the season," Francona said Wednesday, March 27. "You're trying to get guys locked in. That's a little bit of a trying time for the bench, because you get routine at-bats (in spring) - every other day or something - and then the season starts." Fantasy Tip: Aviles is useful to fantasy owners in AL-only fantasy leagues due to his eligibility at multiple positions, but he is likely to get around 10-15 at-bats per weeks limiting his appeal.
Wed, 20 Mar 2013 21:58:48 -0700 Cleveland Indians INF Mike Aviles batted .323 (10-for-31) with a home run, double, four runs scored and nine RBIs for Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic. Aviles was scheduled to arrive back in camp the night of Wednesday, March 20.
Tue, 19 Feb 2013 21:01:33 -0800 Cleveland Indians INF Mike Aviles and P Giovanni Soto will participate for Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic next month.
Sun, 10 Feb 2013 19:51:29 -0800 Cleveland Indians 3B Lonnie Chisenhall managed just a .184 batting average last season, and a .227 average in his major league career, against left-handed pitching. He also struggled against southpaws in the minors, and could be rested against lefties with SS Mike Aviles getting starts at third base.
Sun, 10 Feb 2013 19:51:01 -0800 Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis played 152 games last season, batting .277 in the first half and just .233 in the second half. The signing of SS Mike Aviles might mean the veteran sees time at second base to give Kipnis rest or allow him to serve as the designated hitter.
