Rob Phillips, of DallasCowboys.com, reports Dallas Cowboys DL/LB Greg Ellis has been playing well at left outside linebacker and has been on the first defensive team ahead of LB Al Singleton over the past few practices. Ellis' success at the position could be the reason why the team moved LB Bobby Carpenter over from left outside linebacker to inside linebacker. If Ellis continues to perform well throughout camp and preseason, he could lock up the starting job and relegate Carpenter to a backup role for his rookie season.

In his post minicamp news conference Friday, June 2, Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said LB Al Singleton has been excused from this weekend's minicamp because he is getting married. Parcells said Singleton will start his honeymoon by being back at the team's OTAs Monday, June 5.

Updating previous reports, the Dallas Morning News reports the four-year contract signed by LB Al Singleton with the Dallas Cowboys is worth about $8 million, including a signing bonus of more than $2 million. He will play on the strong side over the tight end. "Al is an athletic linebacker with very good speed," owner Jerry Jones said. "Al is a productive player in the prime of his career. He knows how to win and how to produce in this scheme."

Updating previous reports, the Dallas Morning News reports the Dallas Cowboys offered free agent LB Al Singleton (Buccaneers) a contract on Tuesday. However, he left town without accepting it. He has also reportedly received offers from the Detroit Lions and the Bucs.
