Ellis' success at the position could be the reason why the team moved LB Bobby Carpenter over from left outside linebacker to inside linebacker. If Ellis continues to perform well throughout camp and preseason, he could lock up the starting job and relegate Carpenter to a backup role for his rookie season.

Updating previous reports, the Dallas Morning News reports the four-year contract signed by LB Al Singleton with the Dallas Cowboys is worth about $8 million, including a signing bonus of more than $2 million. He will play on the strong side over the tight end. "Al is an athletic linebacker with very good speed," owner Jerry Jones said. "Al is a productive player in the prime of his career. He knows how to win and how to produce in this scheme."
