The Chicago Cubs will monitor SP Jake Arrieta during his starts but have no plans on shutting him down for the rest of the season, according to manager Rick Renteria.
Fantasy Tip: Arrieta has been solid this season and should continue to be an option in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues.

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta (shoulder) will work as the team's third starter out of the All-Star break, working Sunday, July 20, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The team is still trying to play it safe and give his shoulder rest when they can.

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta has posted a 3-0 record with a 1.78 ERA over his past five starts with a .140 opponent batting average, 0.71 WHIP and just one homer allowed with eight walks and 41 strikeouts over the past 35 1/3 innings.
Fantasy Tip: Arrieta has moved to ace status on the north side following the trade of Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel to Oakland, and he has looked the part. He is a must-start in all fantasy formats while pitching this well, so don't be shy to start him even if he plays for a losing club.

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Boston Red Sox Monday, June 30, and he has won four straight starts while lowering his ERA to 1.81. "He's found his routine," pitching coach Chris Bosio responded. "He trusts his stuff. He's matured as a pitcher. And opportunity." Bosio said the biggest thing has been that Arrieta has been healthy every fifth day after he started the season late due to a shoulder problem.
On Monday, Arrieta threw 39 cutters against the Red Sox, and they were 0-for-11 against them, including four strikeouts. In his last four starts, Arrieta has tossed 137 cutters, and opponents were just 6-for-38 with a walk and 15 strikeouts against the pitch. Arrieta said his success comes from keeping his pitches down in the zone.
Fantasy Tip: It looks like the breakout for Arrieta is finally here, and the move to the National League last year may have been the catalyst. Now that he's healthy and keeping the ball down with good control, the K's are piling up and he's becoming the dominant pitcher that we once yearned for. He should be owned everywhere at the moment.

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta (3-1) recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts in seven innings in a win over the Miami Marlins Wednesday, June 18. In the process, he lowered his ERA to 1.98, and he now has 55 strikeouts in 50 innings on the season. "I'm not doing anything different," he said. "I'm just commanding everything down in the strike zone and trying to force early contact. Strikeouts are just a byproduct of throwing several plus pitches for strikes."
