Cubs | Jake Arrieta lowers ERA to 0.82

Tue, 03 May 2016 23:22:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta allowed just two hits and two walks with five strikeouts over seven scoreless innings in a win Tuesday, May 3, against the Pittsburgh Pirates, lowering his ERA to 0.82. He is the first Cubs pitcher to win each of his first six starts in a season since P Mordecai Brown won his first 11 starts in 1908.

Fantasy Tip: Arrieta is having a tremendous season, and he is off to a historic start. If you drafted Arrieta in your fantasy league he is likely single-handedly keeping you on top.

Cubs | Jake Arrieta moves to 5-0

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 15:28:56 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta only went five innings in his start Thursday, April 28, against the Milwaukee Brewers, yielding one run on three hits and four walks, but he also struck out six, en route to improving to 5-0 on the year.

Fantasy Tip: Not the sharpest of performances from the reigning NL Cy Young award winner, but Arrieta was decent enough here to pick up the victory. In the process, his ERA went up to an even 1.00, but owners won't have any complaints with that. Simply put, the 30-year-old seems to have picked up from where he left off during his historic 2015 campaign, and continues to be one of the best starters in all of fantasy. His owners should be loving it every time he toes the rubber.

Cubs | Jake Arrieta to pitch Thursday

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 19:03:55 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta will start Thursday, April 28, against the Milwaukee Brewers after his start Wednesday, April 27, was postponed due to rain.

Fantasy Tip: Arrieta is coming off of a no-hitter last time out, and he faces another ultra-favorable matchup here. The Brewers just 6-20 in their past 26 against the Cubs, and 1-8 in Taylor Jungmann's past nine starts, while going 0-9 in his past nine road outings. Arrieta and the Cubs should be in line for an easy victory.

Cubs | Jake Arrieta making it unfair

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 11:46:31 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta has allowed a .137 batting average at home since July 30, and hitters are batting just .150 overall against him since June 21. The wind is reportedly blowing in Wednesday, April 27, as he prepares to take on the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Is there a price that's too high in DFS for him right now, with this matchup? He's coming off a no-hitter and has a great matchup.

Cubs | Jake Arrieta no-hits Cincinnati

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 19:31:47 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta threw a no-hitter in a 16-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds Thursday, April 21, walking four and striking out six.

Fantasy Tip: Arrieta improved to 4-0 and lowered his ERA to 0.87 for the year. He was already an elite starter in season-long formats, and with the way he is throwing right now, he is worth any price tag in daily formats.

Cubs | Jake Arrieta toys with Rockies in victory

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 14:01:04 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta fanned eight over as many scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday, April 16, yielding five hits and walking one to notch his third win in as many starts.

Fantasy Tip: Colorado totaled 27 runs - and scored no fewer than six in any contest during its three-game winning streak - but could only get one extra-base hit off the Cubs' ace before Carlos Gonzalez delivered a two-run shot off reliever Travis Wood in the ninth inning. Arrieta is as good as there is in the game right now and will remain a must-start for his next scheduled turn on Thursday at the Cincinnati Reds.

Diamondbacks | Pack of Arizona hitters take a seat

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 12:27:44 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Jean Segura, C Welington Castillo, LF Yasmany Tomas and SS Nick Ahmed are out of the lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta on Sunday, April 10. OF Socrates Brito is batting leadoff in place of Segura while 2B Phil Gosselin is at the keystone and hitting second. 3B/OF Brandon Drury is in left and batting fifth while INF/OF Chris Owings is replacing Segura in the field and hitting seventh. C Chris Hermann is behind the plate and batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Arrieta was already a strong play Sunday and facing a number of Arizona bench players probably isn't going to hurt his cause. Conversely, it's hard to recommend starting any Diamondbacks outside of Paul Goldschmidt and maybe David Peralta in year-long or DFS formats in this contest.

Cubs | Jake Arrieta dominates opener

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 23:21:55 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta allowed two hits and a walk in seven shutout innings to beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the season opener Monday, April 4. He struck out six and threw 89 pitches.

Fantasy Tip: If his second half was a fluke last season, he showed no signs of it Monday. Arrieta remains a legit SP1.

Cubs | Jake Arrieta ready for opening day

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 16:51:00 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta (thumb) said his blister issue is "completely fixed" and that he's ready for opening day.

Fantasy Tip: That's encouraging to hear from the reigning NL Cy Young award winner, as blister ailments can sometimes stick for a little while before being healed. In this instance, Arrieta appears to be completely over the issue, and should be in usual top form out of the gate. While it will be difficult to duplicate his marvelous campaign of a year ago, Arrieta should still return quality value on the investment owners made in drafting him early.
