Sat, 18 May 2013 11:05:18 -0700 The Baltimore Orioles have placed OF Nolan Reimold (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right hamstring. In a corresponding move, SP Jake Arrieta has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk.
Tue, 14 May 2013 16:08:24 -0700 Baltimore Orioles SP Jake Arrieta (shoulder) tossed 30 fastballs in a bullpen session Tuesday, May 14, and didn't have any pain. He'll be re-evaluated Wednesday, May 15.
Mon, 22 Apr 2013 14:37:42 -0700 The Baltimore Orioles don't plan to send SP Jake Arrieta to a bullpen role in the minors, and he'll start again for Triple-A Norfolk Friday, April 26. The team won't use a reliever for Arrieta's spot in the rotation Wednesday, April 24. SPs Zach Britton, Freddy Garcia and Josh Stinson are candidates to take the vacant rotation spot. Garcia is the only one not on the 40-man roster, and he has an opt-out clause in his contract. SP Jair Jurrjens started in the minors Sunday, April 21, so he's not an option. Fantasy Tip: Britton, Garcia and Stinson should only be considered if you're desperate in AL-only leagues. Arrieta could be brought back up to get another shot in the starting rotation at some point, but he's not worth owning for the time being.
Mon, 22 Apr 2013 12:08:27 -0700 The Baltimore Orioles are sending SP Jake Arrieta to the minors and recalling RP Alex Burnett in a corresponding move Monday, April 22. Fantasy Tip: Arrieta has been very inconsistent with his command early this season, so they'll send him down to work on some things. He can be dropped in all formats as a result. It's unclear yet who Baltimore will put in the rotation to replace him.
Wed, 10 Apr 2013 21:29:54 -0700 Baltimore Orioles SP Jake Arrieta allowed three earned runs, three hits and four walks over five innings in a no-decision against the Boston Red Sox Wednesday, April 10. His day was cut short due to a 43-minute rain delay. He wanted to return, but manager Buck Showalter did not want to risk it. "I think it was around 50 minutes and they wanted to be careful because it's early in the year. I was a little upset about that, but they have my best interests as well as the team's in mind," Arrieta said.
Sun, 31 Mar 2013 20:59:52 -0700 Baltimore Orioles Ps Jake Arrieta (blister), Zach Britton (blister) and Kevin Gausman (blister) each developed blisters on their pitching hand Sunday, March 31. Gausman was shut down as a precaution, while Arrieta stuck with fastballs and changeups to alleviate pressure on the inside of his middle finger where the blister formed. Britton's blister popped, and he applied Super Glue to his thumb to keep pitching.
Fri, 29 Mar 2013 12:06:04 -0700 Baltimore Orioles SP Jake Arrieta will serve as the team's fourth starter this year. He will start the team's home opener.
Wed, 27 Mar 2013 14:01:58 -0700 Baltimore Orioles SPs Jake Arrieta, Brian Matusz and Jair Jurrjens are the candidates for the final rotation spot, and Arrieta is considered the front-runner. Matusz is expected to rejoin the bullpen if he doesn't win the job.
Thu, 21 Mar 2013 17:46:31 -0700 Baltimore Orioles SP Jake Arrieta tossed six scoreless innings and struck out nine in his spring start Thursday, March 21, as he bids for the No. 5 rotation spot. He is currently in the middle of a 14 2/3 scoreless innings streak in camp, giving up six hits and two walks Thursday. Arrieta has given up five runs and 13 hits while walking eight and striking out 16 in 17 1/3 innings over four spring starts. Fantasy Tip: Arrieta will come dirt cheap this year and goes undrafted in most mixed universes. Unfortunate hit and HR/FB rates led to a bloated ERA last year. There is still room for improvement. He could be a steal in AL-only formats.
Mon, 11 Mar 2013 12:38:25 -0700 Baltimore Orioles SP Jake Arrieta threw four more scoreless innings Monday, March 11, and said he could have easily gone six or seven innings. Arrieta hasn't given up a run in his last seven spring innings, and he has allowed four runs (three earned) and seven hits while walking four and striking out seven in 9 2/3 innings. He said he has tightened up his slider this spring.
