Rays | John Jaso will not start

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 14:27:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso is not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone Thursday, Aug. 27. SS Tim Beckham will serve as the designated hitter and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) could return to the lineup in the near future. Beckham ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is batting only .231 in limited playing time this season and is not a great option on Fantasy Score.

Rays | John Jaso benched against southpaw

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 15:56:56 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso is not in the lineup against Houston Astros left-handed SP Dallas Keuchel Wednesday, Aug. 19. SS Asdrubal Cabrera is serving as the designated hitter, while SS Tim Beckham starts at the 6 and is hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso effectively has become a platoon hitter for the Rays, only facing right-handed pitchers. Take note on FantasyScore. Cabrera ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been really hot this month and hits lefties particularly well this year, but he'll be a risky play against Keuchel tonight. Beckham ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) should be avoided.

Rays | John Jaso sitting vs. Astros

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 15:22:20 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso is not in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 17. OF Brandon Guyer slides into the leadoff spot against Houston Astros SP Scott Kazmir Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Jaso ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Monday. Guyer ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) has a .974 OPS over the past two weeks, and he owns a .372 on-base percentage against lefties. He shouldn't be viewed as a lineup lock at FantasyScore Monday, though.

Rays | Richie Shaffer batting second vs. Texas

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 14:35:16 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays 3B Richie Shaffer is batting second as the designated hitter against Texas Rangers SP Martin Perez Friday, Aug. 14. C John Jaso is not in the starting lineup Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Shaffer ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is 0-for-5 against lefties to start his career, but he still holds the handedness advantage Friday. He checks out as viable value play at FantasyScore. Jaso ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is usually the designated hitter and leads off against right-handed hurlers.

Rays | John Jaso out of the lineup

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 12:36:34 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso is not in the starting lineup against the Chicago White Sox Monday, Aug. 3.

Fantasy Tip: With lefty Jose Quintana ($7,300, 14.6% of cap) on the hill, Jaso ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) will receive the night off. He has been exceptional against right-handed hurlers, though, with a .352/.410/.537 slash line through 61 plate appearances. Joey Butler ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has been seeing time as the designated hitter when the Rays face lefties. Butler has really cooled, and he is currently riding a 8-for-56 run at the dish with a .411 OPS. Aim higher FantasyScore players.

Rays | John Jaso not in Friday lineup

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 15:30:19 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox left-handed SP Eduardo Rodriguez Friday, July 31. OF Joey Butler is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth, while OF Mikie Mahtook was recalled from the minors and gets the start in left field while hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has cooled off considerably since a hot run in the first half of the season, and he's seeing inconsistent playing time, too, making him hard to rely on for fantasy purposes. Both he and Mahtook are weaker outfield plays, but Butler at least is a decent value consideration on FantasyScore. Mahtook should be ignored.

Rays | John Jaso out vs. southpaw

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 15:22:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso is not in the lineup against Detroit Tigers left-handed SP David Price Tuesday, July 28. OF Joey Butler is serving as the designated hitter and batting second.

Fantasy Tip: Butler ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has hit very well against lefties this year (.314/.333/.486 with three of his six home runs in 70 at-bats), which could make him a contrarian play on FantasyScore while facing Price.

Rays | John Jaso resting

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 06:46:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso is out of the lineup Wednesday, July 22, with OF Brandon Guyer leading off.

Fantasy Tip: Guyer ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is hitting .185 this month and hits lefties at a .260 clip. Avoid him on FantasyScore.

Rays | John Jaso on the bench

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 12:00:22 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso is not in the starting lineup against Philadelphia Phillies SP David Buchanan Monday, July 20, because the team is playing in a National League park and will not use the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known if Jaso ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) will receive any starts during the series against the Phillies, so owners will need to check the daily lineups. Jaso has picked up at least one hit in eight of his last 10 games and should be a solid option for owners when he return to the lineup.

Rays | John Jaso makes immediate impact

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 15:28:11 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays C John Jaso went 7-for-12 in the series against the Kansas City Royals after coming off the disabled list earlier this week. Jaso had been out since the first week of the season with a bruised wrist.

Fantasy Tip: Jaso ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is extremely valuable in deep mixed and AL-only leagues because of his positional eligibility at catcher and outfield, and he'll continue to have strong daily value if he continues to hit leadoff for the Rays.
