The Houston Chronicle's Richard Justice reports former Houston Astros manager Cecil Cooper burned bridges with veteran players last season when the players were convinced Cooper lied to them in a team meeting. Two veterans said on the day IF Aaron Boone emotionally told his teammates he was going to undergo heart surgery, Cooper got on his players for not playing harder. Lastly, when C Ivan Rodriguez broke the all-time record for games caught, Cooper didn't congratulate him until the next day.

The Houston Chronicle's Jose De Jesus Ortiz reports Houston Astros owner Drayton McLane gave manager Cecil Cooper a vote of confidence. "He's only been the manager for a year and a half," McLane said. "I think that's somewhat premature (to discuss firing Cooper)."

Updating previous reports, Houston Astros RP Chad Paronto (shoulder) has not pitched since Monday, March 23, and he did not respond well after playing catch with SP Brandon Backe Friday, March 27, according to Brian McTaggart of the Houston Chronicle. Manager Cecil Cooper said Paronto's chances to make the team have been hit hard by his injury.
