Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton said he plans to make tweaks to his sinker after allowing two long home runs to right-handed hitters in a 5-0 loss Sunday, May 6. "The one thing that I was really good at last year was getting ground balls from righties," Morton said. "They weren't hitting me. To have given up four home runs now — all to righties and to deep parts of the park — it's the kind of feedback where you have to look at it objectively and say there's something you have to do a little bit different."

The Pittsburgh Pirates are leaning toward moving SP Charlie Morton (hip) back into the starting rotation after his rehab start with Triple-A Indianapolis Monday, April 9. "We'll see how he feels physically, but we're hoping to get our hands on him," manager Clint Hurdle said. "His next start will be on the 14th whether it's a start out there or start here. We've had internal conversations. I think he's in a good place." Morton allowed one run and six hits while walking one and striking out eight Monday in 7 2/3 innings.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton (hip) is scheduled to make a rehab start for Triple-A Indianapolis Monday, April 9. If all goes well, he could be activated Saturday, April 14, against the San Francisco Giants.

Pittsburgh Pirates have placed SPs A.J. Burnett (eye) and Charlie Morton (hip) on the 15-day disabled list. Burnett's placement is retroactive to March 26, and Morton' is retroactive to March 29.

The Pittsburgh Pirates placed SP Charlie Morton (hip) on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, March 29, because he won't be ready to make his first start in the regular season. "He's not quite ready to go," general manager Neal Huntington said. "While we're excited about where he is, he's made tremendous progress, our belief is he needs another start down here (in spring training) and one start in the minor leagues." Morton gave up six runs and eight hits in five innings against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, March 28. He'll throw a simulated game Wednesday, April 4, and pitch in the minors April 9. He could make his first start of the year against the San Francisco Giants April 14. RP Juan Cruz will be put on the opening day roster Friday, March 30.
