Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo agreed to a seven-year, $41 million deal through 2019 with two $14.5 million club options, sources say. The total value could be worth $68 million, and escalators could push it to $73 million. He would not receive a $2 million buyout if both options are exercised.

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs against the Miami Marlins Friday, April 26. It was the second multi-homer game of his career. He currently has eight homers, breaking the club record of most home runs in franchise history by a left-handed batter during the month of April. Billy Williams (1970) and Henry Rodriguez (2000) shared the previous mark of seven.

Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum came out and said players would not be tolerated on the team if they engaged in lackluster play, even singling out SS Starlin Castro and 1B Anthony Rizzo. The players were mentioned as part of Sveum's overall disappointment with errors and bad hitting, among other categories.

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo is expected to rejoin the team Saturday, March 16. He was away for the World Baseball Classic playing for Team Italy, but they have been eliminated from competition.

Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum loves the versatility that INF Brent Lillibridge brings to the club, and he has a chance to serve as the backup first baseman to 1B Anthony Rizzo. Cs Welington Castillo and Dioner Navarro will also work out at the position in spring training.
