Cubs | Anthony Rizzo, Jason Heyward both out

Fri, 27 May 2016 08:21:13 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (rest) and OF Jason Heyward (rest) are both not in the starting lineup Friday, May 27. 3B Kris Bryant is filling in at first base, allowing 2B Javier Baez to enter the lineup at third base and bat seventh opposite Philadelphia Phillies SP Adam Morgan. OF Jorge Soler will shift over to right field, while OF Matt Szczur gets a rare start in left field and is hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Baez is always one of the better value plays for daily formats whenever he cracks the batting order, so owners might want to consider his services this afternoon. Meanwhile, Szczur could be an interesting plugin play option, as he's produced an impressive .389/.450/.639 line thus far, albeit in 36 at-bats.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo posting mixed numbers

Tue, 24 May 2016 12:16:28 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo is 2-for-27 on the team's road trip following a 4-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, May 23. Against left-handed pitchers this season, Rizzo is batting .156 with a .296 on-base percentage. Rizzo's batting average on balls in play is .218, but for the season he is hitting .239 with 11 home runs and 35 runs batted in.

Fantasy Tip: These numbers are all over the place, and they demonstrate how maddening Rizzo can be when it comes to hot and cold streaks. However, Rizzo still merits play in DFS, weekly and annual leagues because of his sheer power. Rizzo has 11 home runs, and you can't ignore those numbers. He is on pace for more than 100 walks and less than 100 strikeouts, which no Cub has done since 1984 (Gary Matthews). Rizzo puts the ball in play, and his bat can be potent.

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo finished 2-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and a run scored in an 8-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, May 14.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo can get better?

Fri, 13 May 2016 11:05:42 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo is hitting .275 with 10 homers and 29 RBI in 120 at-bats. He's hitting .275 despite a low .250 BABIP.

Fantasy Tip: Rizzo's BABIPs were .311 (.286 average) and .289 (.278 average) the last two years, and his strikeout rate is the lowest of his career at 11.9% thus far. It's scary to think, but Rizzo has hit into poor luck and could actually get better as the season progresses. He's a must-start in all formats as he's expected to be a front runner for MVP in baseball and in fantasy.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo continues to reach base

Mon, 09 May 2016 11:02:15 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo has reached base safely in 21 straight games, which is the longest active streak in the National League and second longest active streak in the majors behind Baltimore Orioles OF Mark Trumbo (22 straight).

Fantasy Tip: Over that span, Rizzo is hitting .308 (24-for-78) with eight home runs, 18 RBI and 15 walks (one intentional). After a slow start, Rizzo has rebounded to what fantasy owners had expected; an RBI and on-base machine. A popular first-round pick this year, Rizzo is well on his way to providing first-round value.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo scores three times

Wed, 04 May 2016 14:22:16 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo went 3-for-5 with three runs and a home run during the Cubs' 6-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: The RBI leader (27) now has 22 runs for the season, and the home run was his ninth of the campaign. Rizzo appears locked in for another monster fantasy season, and it is worth noting, he has improved his batting average from .163 to .260 through his past 12 games. During the 12-game stretch, Rizzo has 14 runs, six home runs and 16 RBI. He's red hot.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo on a tear

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 12:21:18 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo is slugging .580 for the season and has eight home runs but zero doubles. Rizzo has hit five homers and driven in 10 runs in his last five games.

Fantasy Tip: Rizzo's numbers are eye-popping, much like most other Cub hitters in the early part of this season. Keep him in your fantasy lineup as long as he's hitting like this. In daily leagues Rizzo could produce explosive numbers.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo clubs a pair in rout

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 14:45:54 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo continued to keep pace with a major-league leaders in homers and RBI on Sunday, April 24, blasting a pair of two-run home runs off Cincinnati Reds SP Alfredo Simon.

Fantasy Tip: Rizzo (eight homers, 21 RBI) is batting only .203 but trails only Bryce Harper (nine, 23) in both power categories, and has five home runs as well as 10 RBI over his last five contests. It's scary to think what he could do if actually catches fire sometime soon, although his home run and RBI production should be enough for owners to overlook the other way when it comes to his early poor batting average.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo making most of hits

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 19:35:35 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo homered for the third straight game, going 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in an 8-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds Friday, April 22. He is hitting .194 this year, but his six home runs are tied for the fourth most in the majors and his 17 RBI are tied for the second most.

Fantasy Tip: Half of Rizzo's 12 hits have left the yard, and he continues to provide excellent power stats despite struggling at the plate overall. The good news is that the average should only improve, and he has remained productive in the meantime.

Cubs | Anthony Rizzo continues to struggle

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 15:10:28 -0700

Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo went 1-for-4 during the Cubs' 6-1 loss to the Colorado Rockies Friday, April 15. He is currently mired in a 2-for-22 slump with just two runs and a single RBI over his past seven games.

Fantasy Tip: Even though Rizzo has been in a funk at the plate to start the season, he still has seven runs, two home runs and 10 RBI to buoy his fantasy value. The slugger is going to break out sooner than later, and if there are any buy-low windows out there, run to them immediately and try to acquire Rizzo.
