Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks (finger) will be activated from the disabled list Friday, Aug. 1.
Fantasy Tip: The writing was on the wall for a Middlebrooks return once the Red Sox traded Stephen Drew to the rival Yanks. Middlebrooks could enter into a platoon with Kelly Johnson at third base when he returns, but Middlebrooks figures to see the majority of the playing time. If you're in need at a corner infield spot in a deep mixed league, Middlebrooks might be just what the doctor ordered, just don't expect much help in the BA department.

Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks (finger) is 9-for-28 with three home runs in his seven games of rehab at Triple-A Pawtucket. This may be opening up the Red Sox's third-base position for him when Middlebrooks returns.
Fantasy Tip: Middlebrooks is a decent deep-mixed speculation, but note that the Sox's picture will be crowded with Xander Bogaerts and, on some days, Brock Holt lining up there.

Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks (finger) is expected to continue his rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket, because the team wants him to get some regular at-bats.

Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks (finger) could return from the disabled list before next week's four-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays, according to manager John Farrell. Middlebrooks has a .315 average with five home runs and nine RBIs in 14 career games in Toronto. If Middlebrooks comes back, the team may have to choose between optioning OF Daniel Nava to the minors or designating OF Mike Carp for assignment.
Fantasy Tip: The Red Sox won't be bringing Middlebrooks back to sit the bench. Get a jump on adding him in deep mixed leagues if you need some power or help at a corner infield spot.

Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks (wrist) is expected to play for Triple-A Pawtucket Friday, July 18. He will be used exclusively at third base.
Fantasy Tip: Middlebrooks' wrist injury can't be too serious if he's ready to return to action tomorrow night. The Red Sox continue to take their time with Middlebrooks, and he won't be rushed back to the major league roster anytime soon.

Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks (wrist, finger) was recalled from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo after he jammed his left wrist while sliding into third base Friday, July 11. He had gone 7-for-27 with two walks and four RBIs in eight games since resuming his rehab. Middlebrooks has been on the disabled list since May 17 after breaking his right index finger.
Fantasy Tip: It looks like Middlebrooks will now have to restart his rehab assignment after he recovers from his latest injury. That setback will delay his return probably for at least another couple of weeks. Remember, the Red Sox are in no rush to bring him back to the majors, either. AL-only leagues are really the only place where it's worthy to continue stashing him.

Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks (wrist, finger) jammed his left wrist during a rehab game Saturday, July 12. He was not in the starting lineup Sunday, July 13, and manager John Farrell said the team is waiting for further updates.

Boston Red Sox 3B Xander Bogaerts may still play shortstop in 2014, but the club wants to get him right at the plate before considering it. The likeliest scenario for him playing shortstop would be against a left-handed pitcher.
Fantasy Tip: A lot depends on the status of Will Middlebrooks (finger), where Brock Holt will play, and whether they still value Stephen Drew (maybe he'll be traded). Bogaerts isn't starter-worthy right now in most mixed leagues.

Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks (finger) went 1-for-3 while playing seven innings at third base with Triple-A Pawtucket Wednesday, July 9. He has hit safely in six of seven rehab games since starting his rehab assignment July 1, going 6-for-22 with a double, triple, home run, three runs scored, three RBIs and two walks. Middlebrooks could see some time in the outfield at Pawtucket, but he'll remain at third base for now.
Fantasy Tip: Don't expect Middlebrooks back in the majors anytime soon. The Red Sox have said that they don't want to rush him back.

Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks isn't expected to return to the team soon, as general manager Ben Cherington doesn't seem to be in a rush to bring him back. The team has talked about Middlebrooks playing other positions, and Cherington said he "needs at-bats."
Fantasy Tip: As long as Middlebrooks remains in the minors, that's good news for Brock Holt and Xander Bogaerts. The only place you should be hanging onto Middlebrooks is deep AL-only formats.
