Padres | Will Middlebrooks out vs. Giants

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 15:20:04 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Will Middlebrooks is not in the starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants Friday, April 10. 2B/3B Cory Spangenberg is starting at third base and batting second.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Middlebrooks from all your lineups Friday. At his cap hit, there is upside for Spangenberg ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) in daily contests, especially with him hitting out of the two hole. Still, it would be a risky start.

Padres | Will Middlebrooks set to start at 3B

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 15:48:33 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Will Middlebrooks has played very well this spring and is lined up to start at third base on opening day next week. Middlebrooks has hit .333 (15-for-45) with two home runs, two doubles and eight RBI, and he has just one error on defense.

Fantasy Tip: Middlebrooks' injury-plagued last two seasons likely have him off many fantasy owner's radars heading into the 2015 season. For that reason, he's mainly an NL-only commodity to start, but he could be a popular waiver wire addition in deep mixed leagues if he can stay healthy in San Diego. Middlebrooks likely won't do your team batting average any favors, but he has plus power that could make a difference.

Padres | Will Middlebrooks third base front-runner

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 12:57:42 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Will Middlebrooks is the favorite to open the season as the starting third baseman. He has not played another position, while 3B Yangervis Solarte has played various infield positions during spring training. The Padres have yet to declare their everyday third basemen, though.

Fantasy Tip: Middlebrooks ($2,900, 5.8%) fell off the map last season, but at 26, he checks in as a post-hype candidate with power upside worth a late-round flier in deep leagues. His home ballpark will lend no favors, and he is likely only an early-season slump away from losing his starting job. He is having a nice spring, though, with eight runs, two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI with a .333/.350/.538 slash line. So there is upside. With Solarte's ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) playing time uncertain, it is difficult to roster him in the majority of formats. However, his positional eligibility could prove to be beneficial in deep leagues if he receives enough at-bats. At this pont, neither player projects as anything more than a low-priced flier in FantasyScore contests.

Padres | Will Middlebrooks squaring it up

Sat, 21 Mar 2015 14:36:50 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Will Middlebrooks has hit the ball hard all spring and has shown a propensity to avoid merely pulling the ball.

Fantasy Tip: Middlebrooks is hitting .333-2-5 in 30 spring at-bats with the Friars. At $2,900, or 5.8% of your cap, he's a good speculative flyer on FantasyScore in good matchups.
