Updating a previous item, Mark Feinsand, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Yankees acquired OF Jerry Hairston Jr. from the Cincinnati Reds Friday, July 31, in exchange for C Richard Weems. Hairston will likely be used as a utility infielder and outfielder.

Bryan Hoch, of Yankees.MLB.com, reports the New York Yankees signed C Richard Weems, the team's sixth round selection in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. Details of the contract were not disclosed.
