Cubs | Neil Ramirez the closer with Hector Rondon out

Fri, 30 May 2014 15:25:16 -0700

Chicago Cubs RP Neil Ramirez will serve as the team's closer with RP Hector Rondon out Friday, May 30.

Fantasy Tip: Ramirez could be the closer for however many days Rondon is out. Grab Ramirez off the waiver wire for the next few days if you're desperate for saves.

Cubs | Hector Rondon on paternity list

Fri, 30 May 2014 12:02:54 -0700

The Chicago Cubs placed RP Hector Rondon on the paternity list Friday, May 30, and activated RP Pedro Strop (groin) from the disabled list in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Rondon will miss a few days at minimum, so prepare for his absence. Considering Strop just returned, it remains to be seen if they'll trust him in a save situation right away with Rondon out. Your best bet for grabbing a cheap save over the next few days is with Neil Ramirez.

Cubs | Neil Ramirez trusted in late-inning role

Thu, 01 May 2014 08:43:46 -0700

Chicago Cubs RP Neil Ramirez was trusted with a one-run lead in the eighth inning and went through the heart of the Cincinnati Reds' order Wednesday, April 30. "(Pitching coach) Chris Bosio is real comfortable with him," manager Rick Renteria said after the game. "His demeanor is calm. He has good stuff." Ramirez made his major league debut last Friday, and he possesses a 96 mph fastball and an 87 mph slider. RP Hector Rondon pitched the ninth to finish off the Reds in a non-save situation.

Fantasy Tip: Rondon is clearly in the lead for closing duties in Chicago, but with Jose Veras injured and Pedro Strop struggling with his control, Ramirez could emerge as the eighth-inning setup man before long. Keep his name tucked away if you're chasing saves.

Rangers | To decide Yu Darvish's replacement

Wed, 10 Jul 2013 16:24:37 -0700

The Texas Rangers don't know who'll start Thursday, July 11, in place of SP Yu Darvish (back). It'll be Ross Wolf or Neil Ramirez.

Fantasy Tip: A modestly touted prospect in recent years, Ramirez had struggled with the mental aspect of the game in recent years and is in the middle of somewhat of a revival. He'd be a better choice than Wolf, but the matchup with the Baltimore Orioles doesn't exactly scream "pick him up!" Ramirez would be worth watching should Darvish's injury linger, though.
