Ortega, OF Ryan Strieby, SS Audy Ciriaco and SS Cale Iorg to Triple-A Toledo; P Jacob Turner to Double-A Erie; and reassigned RP Chris Oxspring, C Rob Brantly, IF Brandon Douglas, OF Avisail Garcia, OF Ben Guez, C Bryan Holaday, C Patrick Leyland, C John Murrian, P John Bale and C Omir Santos to minor league camp, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports.

The Detroit Tigers agreed to terms with P Robbie Weinhardt, P Andrew Oliver, P Daniel Schlereth, P Brad Thomas, IF Cale Iorg and IF Will Rhymes on deals for the 2011 season Monday, Feb. 21, according to the Detroit Free Press. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

The Detroit Free Press' Jon Paul Morosi reports Detroit Tigers IF William Rhymes could be an option at shortstop in 2009, although Rhymes is viewed as a second baseman by Tigers president/general manager Dave Dombrowski. Rhymes, who will be 26 on April 1, has primarily played second base in the minors, but also has some experience at shortstop. The Tigers already have 2B Placido Polanco as the starter at second base, meaning Rhymes could find himself in a platoon at shortstop with IF Ramon Santiago in 2009 while the team awaits the arrival of SS Cale Iorg, who is considered the team's shortstop of the future.
