Mets | Wilmer Flores may get Sunday off

Sat, 02 May 2015 15:30:48 -0700

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores may not play Sunday, May 3, and he may have a three-day break lined up because the Mets are off Monday, May 4.

Fantasy Tip: Flores ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) hasn't hit well, and a three-day rest period now may be followed by an option to the minors if he continues his lack of hitting. For now, do not play Flores in any of your daily lineups.

Mets | Wilmer Flores resting

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 11:23:32 -0700

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 28. SS Ruben Tejada is starting at shortstop and hitting sixth in the batting order against New York Mets SP David Phelps.

Fantasy Tip: Tejada ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a light-hitting infielder that should be considered a low-end shortstop play at FantasyScore tonight. Plus, Phelps has been surprisingly good for the Marlins in April.

Mets | Wilmer Flores backed by GM

Mon, 13 Apr 2015 10:47:07 -0700

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores is off to a rough start to the year - .158 batting average and three errors in six games. However, genearl manager Sandy Alderson is confident in the young shortstop and thinks he'll be just fine.

Fantasy Tip: Flores ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) will be a cheap shortstop option at FantasyScore all season long, but he'll continue to be a weak daily play until he shows some life with the lumber.

Mets | Wilmer Flores back in Mets lineup

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 16:30:12 -0700

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores (foot) returned to the lineup Thursday, March 26.

Fantasy Tip: Flores ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) recently shed his walking boot, and a return to the lineup bodes well for his opening day readiness. Last season, he hit just .251 but rarely struck out -- 11.3% strikeout rate -- and hit well in the minors. Shortstop lacks depth, and Flores makes for a nice late-round flier.

Mets | Wilmer Flores out of walking boot

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 18:59:19 -0700

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores (foot) shed his walking boot Monday, March 23, and he said he was confident he would be ready for the regular season opener. He suffered a bruised left foot during a Grapefruit League spring game Sunday, March 22, after fouling a ball off his foot.

Fantasy Tip: Ruben Tejeda will see significant spring at-bats with Flores sidelined, and if Flores is not ready for the regular season he would likely start the opener.

Mets | Daniel Murphy open to extension

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 09:08:54 -0800

New York Mets 2B Daniel Murphy said he is open to extension talks with the club during the season, but no in-season extension talks are planned, according to a team source. That means Murphy will likely head to free agency next offseason. The source noted that the Mets are deep in upper-level middle infield prospects like INFs Dilson Herrera, Matthew Reynolds and even Wilmer Flores. Murphy is set to earn $8 million this season.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy isn't a bad second base option in the late middle rounds of standard leagues, and a high batting average is his main skill, but he can also offer a little power and little speed. Just don't expect a return to the 20-stolen base mark that he put up in 2013.

Mets | NY looking to motivate Ruben Tejada

Tue, 24 Feb 2015 13:45:32 -0800

New York Mets SS Ruben Tejada is in a shortstop race with SS Wilmer Flores, but it appears manager Terry Collins is using it as a way to motivate Tejada. Collins said that Tejada needed to attend voluntary workouts before camp in order to be on the same footing as Flores. Tejada was working out in Port St. Lucie, Fla., in recent weeks before camp.

Fantasy Tip: Tejada is expected to win the shortstop job in camp, unless his performance drastically proves otherwise. There's really nothing to like about Tejada for fantasy purposes, though, aside from playing time. That makes him strictly an NL-only commodity.

Mets | Jim Bowden talks Wilmer Flores

Thu, 12 Feb 2015 16:58:54 -0800

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores is expected to start for the club. When asked if the Mets would regret not upgrading at shortstop, former Cincinnati Reds general manager and SiriusXM MLB Network Radio host Jim Bowden indicated Flores' lackluster range could be problematic for a team built on pitching. Bowden went on to say Mets general manager Sandy Alderson, " ... can trade for a shortstop any time he wants to because the system is so deep."

Mets | NY Mets have no talks with Everth Cabrera

Mon, 09 Feb 2015 00:03:45 -0800

Free-agent SS Everth Cabrera (Padres) has had no talks with the New York Mets, as the Mets seem committed to SS Wilmer Flores as their starter.

Mets | Wilmer Flores set to start at SS

Thu, 29 Jan 2015 14:30:30 -0800

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores is set to be the team's starting shortstop heading into the 2015 season. The Mets shopped for upgrades at the position this offseason, but not much was available. The good news is that Flores had a slugging percentage of .514 with five home runs in his last 28 games. SS Ruben Tejada will likely be the primary backup at shortstop and second base.
