Mets | Ruben Tejada out of the lineup

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 13:33:19 -0700

New York Mets SS Ruben Tejada is not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Monday, Aug. 3. SS Wilmer Flores will start at shortstop and is batting fifth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Tejada ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) probably is receiving a day off and will return to the lineup soon. Flores ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is hitting .251 this season with 11 home runs and 42 RBI this season and could be a solid starting option on FantasyScore.

Mets | Lucas Duda sitting against lefty

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 15:36:24 -0700

New York Mets 1B Lucas Duda is not in the starting lineup versus Washington Nationals left-handed SP Gio Gonzalez Friday, July 31. 2B Daniel Murphy is starting at first base and hitting third in the lineup, while SS Wilmer Flores gets the start at the keystone and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: We don't recommend using Murphy ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) against a left-handed pitcher, as he's hitting only .174 (12-for-69) against them this year with none of his six home runs. Gonzalez has been pitching very well of late, too. Flores ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) does have 10 home runs and is a midrange shortstop play to save money elsewhere on your roster.

Brewers | MIL denies Carlos Gomez hip issue

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 09:18:20 -0700

Updating an earlier report, Milwaukee Brewers OF Carlos Gomez (hip) was the centerpiece of a deal that fell apart with the New York Mets due to an alleged hip issue. Brewers general manager Doug Melvin and Gomez's agent, Scott Boras, denied Gomez had an issue with his hip. According to a source, the Mets wanted the Brewers to take OF Juan Lagares in the deal, but the Brewers declined because Lagares has an elbow issue. Lagares also has a four-year, $23 million extension that kicks in next year, and the Brewers didn't want to pick up the money. The Mets swapped in SS Wilmer Flores in the deal and wanted a draft pick, which the Brewers declined. The Brewers were also asked to include cash in the deal and declined. After the Brewers declined to include cash in the deal, the Mets called off the deal because of Gomez's medical records.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds as if Gomez's hip condition is overblown or even a smokescreen. At $5,400 (10.8% of cap), Gomez remains a high-end outfielder. However, it might be best to avoid him on FantasyScore until after the July 31 deadline passes.

Mets | Wilmer Flores remains in Queens

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 20:10:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets 2B Wilmer Flores and SP Zack Wheeler are staying put, as a deal previously agreed upon Wednesday, July 29, for Milwaukee Brewers OF Carlos Gomez has fallen through. General manager Sandy Alderson said "there is no trade" for Gomez and that a deal "will not transpire."

Fantasy Tip: Flores ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) could still be moved in another deal, and as such he is a risky FantasyScore play in the coming days as he could be a late scratch or early removal from a game.

Mets | Carlos Gomez deal falls through

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 20:09:41 -0700

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers OF Carlos Gomez is staying put, as the previously agreed upon deal for 2B Wilmer Flores and SP Zack Wheeler has fallen through. General manager Sandy Alderson said Wednesday, July 29, "there is no trade" for Gomez and that a deal "will not transpire."

Fantasy Tip: So much for that. Gomez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) is still a risky FantasyScore play in the coming days, as he is clearly on the trade block and could be dealt. He could be late scratch or early removal from a game, costing FantasyScore players.

Mets | Carlos Gomez acquired from MIL

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 18:36:52 -0700

Updating a previous report, the New York Mets have acquired OF Carlos Gomez from the Milwaukee Brewers, in exchange for SP Zack Wheeler and SS Wilmer Flores.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) returns to the Big Apple for his second tour of duty with the Mets. He is likely to serve as the regular left fielder while Michael Cuddyer ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is on the DL and could move over to center field when he returns to action. Wheeler, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, was expendable due to the team's excess of quality starting pitching. Ruben Tejada ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) or Juan Uribe ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) could see regular playing time at shortstop due to Flores' departure, with Uribe being the slightly better FantasyScore option.

Brewers | Carlos Gomez traded to NYM

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 18:28:47 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Milwaukee Brewers have acquired SP Zack Wheeler and SS Wilmer Flores from the New York Mets, in exchange for OF Carlos Gomez, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: Wheeler is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery and is not expected to resume pitching at the major league level until after the 2016 All-Star break. Flores ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is batting .249 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs in 92 games this season. He could slide over to second base or third base due to the presence of SS Jean Segura ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) at shortstop.

Mets | Ruben Tejada sitting out vs. Friars

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 15:15:09 -0700

New York Mets SS Ruben Tejada is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 29. SS Wilmer Flores is starting at shortstop and batting seventh, and OF Kelly Johnson is starting at second base and batting third against San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Tejada ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday, and in seasonal leagues, he is only an option in cavernous mixed and NL-only formats. Flores ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) is a high-risk, high-reward option at FantasyScore, and Johnson ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) could receive a nice fantasy boost if he sees everyday at-bats and earns eligibility at second base. Keep an eye on Johnson's usage in the field. Neither he or Flores stand out as strong FantasyScore plays Wednesday.

Mets | Wilmer Flores could change positions

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 07:33:48 -0700

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores could move from second base to shortstop since 2B Daniel Murphy is expected to move back to second base. SS Ruben Tejada would become a bench player.

Fantasy Tip: Flores ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has been playing at second base because of injuries to the roster. He is hitting .295 with seven RBI this month and could be a solid starting option on FantasyScore.

Mets | Wilmer Flores drives in a pair of runs

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 19:32:39 -0700

New York Mets SS Wilmer Flores went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI during the Mets' 7-2 win over the Washington Nationals Tuesday, July 21.

Fantasy Tip: Flores ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) currently has 34 runs, 10 home runs and 40 RBI, which is solid production in the counting stat department for a middle infielder. His batting average is also up to a respectable .252 mark. It isn't out of the question for him to finish the season strong, either, especially since he is currently locked into the middle of the order. FantasyScore players should only look his way in plus-matchups, though.
