Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz's average fastball velocity is down from 96.3 mph, during his 2010 and 2011 stints as closer, to 92.2 this season. His heat has been inconsistent from outing to outing, as well. Feliz said he's aware of the drop-off but is focusing more on making sure he stays in the lower part of the strike zone. He said that the change in his role could cause him to throw harder, too, because "Obviously, there is more energy and adrenaline. You have to do your job with a sense of urgency."
Fantasy Tip: Saves-desperate fantasy owners should grab him with the hope he'll improve, whether it be via the intangible factor of closing or simply more time on the mound since his 2012 surgery.

Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz said he wants to be a closer.
Fantasy Tip: Feliz had his sights set on being a starter for a couple of years before his elbow required Tommy John surgery. Feliz could be a solid closer once again if he regains his pre-injury form.

Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz will take over as closer after the team dealt RP Joakim Soria. "The Feliz of old is a dominant, elite closer," general manager Jon Daniels said. "He may get that opportunity, whether it's as a traditional closer or in some other way. He's still so young and you still see the ability, just not as consistently. It would be a good test for him to see how he responds."
Fantasy Tip: Feliz should be picked up in AL-only leagues if he's available and most mixed formats if you need saves. He hasn't shown to be the dominant pitcher pre-Tommy John surgery, but he could get better as the season goes on. Corey Knebel could also figure into the mix at some point.

Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz has not allowed a run in his last nine outings for Triple-A Round Rock and has notched six saves during the stretch.
Fantasy Tip: Feliz continues to work on his mechanics in the minors, but he appears to be slowly rounding into form. If he can continue to show consistent results, he could rejoin the Rangers' bullpen after the All-Star break.

Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz (elbow) was diagnosed with general soreness in his right elbow after being examined by Dr. Keith Meister Thursday, April 24, and he doesn't have any structural damage to his ligaments or tendons. Feliz will be placed on the minor league disabled list, though, and will likely resume throwing later this week.
Fantasy Tip: It looks like Feliz will avoid his second Tommy John surgery, for now, but his return to the majors will be delayed by this setback.

Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz has left Triple-A Round Rock due to general soreness and fatigue. However, he's not dealing with a significant physical injury.
Fantasy Tip: Feliz's road back from Tommy John surgery has proved more trying than most expected. A return to the Rangers doesn't seem to be anywhere close for their former closer.

Texas Rangers RP Neftali Feliz struck out the side on 16 pitches in his first outing with Triple-A Round Rock Thursday, April 3, and he hit 96 mph on the radar gun, according to team officials. Feliz was averaging 91-92 mph with his fastball during spring training. He got two of his three strikeouts on swings and misses.
Fantasy Tip: The high velocity is music to the Rangers ears, but Feliz will have to show that he can sustain that before the club thinks about bringing him back to the majors. At some point, though, we expect Feliz back and pitching important innings out of Texas' bullpen. When that'll be, however, is unclear.
