Tigers | Jarrod Saltalamacchia clubs sixth homer

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 14:09:02 -0700

Detroit Tigers C Jarrod Saltalamacchia accounted for his team's only run on Saturday, April 23, clubbing a sinker from Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber into the right-field stands.

Fantasy Tip: In one of the more surprising developments during the first month of the season, Salty ranks tied for second in the American League in home runs (six) and trails only Josh Donaldson in RBI (15). At this rate, it might be hard for manager Brad Ausmus to give James McCann his starting job back. Saltalamacchia needs to be owned in all leagues right now, even if Ausmus eventually decides to use a left-right platoon when McCann comes off the disabled list.

Indians | Corey Kluber rediscovers Cy Young form

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 14:01:14 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber was electric against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, April 23, yielding only a solo homer among the two hits he allowed over eight frames while striking out a season-high 10.

Fantasy Tip: The 2014 American League Cy Young Award winner entered Saturday with a 6.16 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, so the fact he toyed with one of the better offenses in the majors is a good sign. Kluber certainly isn't out of the woods yet in terms of being trusted every time he takes the mound, but owners can sure feel a lot better about getting another dominant effort from him when he faces the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.

Indians | Corey Kluber continues to struggle

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 15:53:58 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber's velocity hasn't been the issue with his tough start to the season. Pitching coach Mickey Callaway thinks Kluber's pitch usage and few breaking balls early in games has led to mechanical issues. Kluber's fastball was coming in slower than normal early in his last outing, and he's averaging 92.6 mph with his sinker, which is a one-mph decrease from April of last year. "He's probably right in line with what he's been in the past at this time of year," Callaway said. "Obviously, the older you get, the more you pitch, the more velocity you lose. Most guys at Kluber's age aren't gaining two mph. They're losing two mph. ... I think the biggest issue with him is not the velocity. It's making pitches and getting depth on his fastball and things like that."

Fantasy Tip: The Klubot has malfunctioned in the early going, with an 0-3 record, 6.16 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in his three outings. Kluber should be fine, though, and he's still fanning 9.0 hitters per nine innings despite the small drop in velocity. This could be the perfect time to buy low on the Indians ace.

Indians | Corey Kluber gets clobbered

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 13:28:57 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber recorded eight strikeouts, but he also surrendered a season-high six runs on nine hits across six innings in a home loss to the New York Mets on Sunday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Kluber flashed dominance in his previous outing, but he has still allowed three or more runs in every start this season after doing so only three times in his final nine starts last year. The former Cy Young Award winner hasn't done enough to deserve the benefit of the doubt in his next scheduled start at the Detroit Tigers on Saturday and should be benched in fantasy for that outing.

Indians | Klubot effective despite loss

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 22:59:15 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber allowed three earned runs, four hits and two walks with six strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in a loss against the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday, April 12.

Fantasy Tip: Kluber was a lot better than his initial outing of the season, but the results were the same - a loss. The 2014 American League Cy Young winner might pitch effectively many nights but still come up short in 2016. The Indians offense is rather erratic, but win or lose Klubot will give fantasy owners plenty of reason to smile with his high strikeout numbers.

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 11:14:32 -0700

The game between the Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox for Monday, April 4, was postponed due to inclement weather. It will be made up Tuesday, April 5, with Indians SP Corey Kluber facing Red Sox SP David Price.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove any players from this game that may have been in your daily lineups on opening day Monday.

Indians | Klubot already in midseason form

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 22:39:18 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber scattered four hits and a walk with four strikeouts over four scoreless innings in his Cactus League spring start Monday, March 14, against the Texas Rangers. He threw 27 of his 32 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Kluber has yet to allow a run in nine scoreless innings. He will once again be a top-notch fantasy option due to his high strikeout totals and low ERA, but the Indians will be mediocre to below-average, so wins might be at a premium for the Klubot.

Indians | Corey Kluber on track for Opening Day

Sat, 05 Mar 2016 12:04:21 -0800

Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber is expected to get the nod on Opening Day "as long as everything goes to plan", according to manager Terry Francona.

Fantasy Tip: The 2014 American League Cy Young Award winner never really got a chance to defend his crown thanks to woeful run support. Kluber should still be considered a top-10 starting pitcher in fantasy capable of returning to his 2014 form. The 29-year-old should be one of the top strikeout artists yet again after totaling 514 over the last two seasons, including 245 last year.

Indians | Corey Kluber finishes with a gem

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 07:05:30 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber threw eight scoreless innings while striking out nine batters during Cleveland's 2-0 win over the Boston Red Sox Saturday, Oct. 3.

Fantasy Tip: Kluber's ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) results never showcased how well he pitched this season (2.97 FIP for the year), as he returned a 3.49 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP and a 9.9 K/9. Perhaps, most disappointing for seasonal owners was the ace being limited to just nine wins on the campaign. Peg Kluber somewhere between his 2014 and 2015 numbers, and view him as a high-end No. 2 starter with the upside to be a fantasy ace in 2016.

Indians | Corey Kluber has owned Twins

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 11:19:53 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber is 4-1 with a 2.01 ERA with 28 hits allowed, eight walks and 54 strikeouts in six starts (49 1/3 innings) against the Minnesota Twins since 2014. Kluber faces the Twins Wednesday, Sept. 23. In his last two starts against Minnesota, Kluber has allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out 17 and walking just two in 18 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Despite Kluber's ($8,600, 17.2% of cap) excellent numbers against the Twins in recent memory, it's still only his second start after returning from a hamstring injury, attaching much more risk than normal to his high FantasyScore salary. You may want to fade him tonight.
