The Seattle Mariners announced Monday, Nov. 25, that Howard Johnson will come on board as their new hitting coach. Johnson was the hitting coach for Triple-A Tacoma last year, and he'll replace Dave Hansen. Hansen has an offer to return as the assistant hitting coach. Rick Waits will become the club's pitching coach while John Stearns will serve as the third base coach and Chris Woodward will be the infield coach. Andy Van Slyke will coach first base and Mike Rojas will serve as the bullpen coach.

New York Mets hitting coach Howard Johnson and bullpen coach Randy Niemann will not return in their roles next year, but both will have jobs within the organization, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.

New York Mets assistant general manager John Ricco will head all of the team's baseball operations until the team hires a new general manager for the 2011 season, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. It is believed that hitting coach Howard Johnson, pitching coach Dan Warthen, third base coach Chip Hale and bullpen coach Randy Niemann will remain with the team.

The Associated Press reports the New York Mets announced that first base coach Luis Alicea will not be back next year and bench coach Sandy Alomar Sr. will be offered another job within the organization. Third base coach Razor Shines and catching coach Sandy Alomar Jr. will remain with the staff but will have different roles. Hitting coach Howard Johnson, pitching coach Dan Warthen and bullpen coach Randy Niemann will be back in the same positions in 2010.

The New York Post's Mark Hale is reporting New York Mets hitting coach Howard Johnson wants to return to the team in 2009. "Oh, sure, absolutely," he said. "The way I look at this year, we failed because we didn't reach our goal of getting to the postseason. But when I look at us offensively, we had a lot of positives, and our positives outweighed our negatives."

Adam Rubin, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Mets are expected to bring back hitting coach Howard Johnson for the 2008 season. There had been speculation Mets general manager Omar Minaya would hire Rudy Jaramillo to replace Johnson.
