Angels | Cory Rasmus nearing a return

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 22:00:29 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Cory Rasmus (groin) was able to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, June 7, and is close to coming off the 15-day disabled list, manager Mike Scioscia said Wednesday, June 8.

Fantasy Tip: Rasmus has a 5.59 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 11 appearances with one start. He is likely heading to a middle relief role, and is only worth a look in the deepest of AL-only rotisserie formats when healthy.

Angels | Cory Rasmus smacked around

Fri, 06 May 2016 23:42:53 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Cory Rasmus allowed five earned runs, five hits and two walks over 2 1/3 innings in a loss Friday, May 6, against the Tampa Bay Rays. He is 0-2 with a 4.44 ERA in his eight big league starts.

Fantasy Tip: Rasmus did not strike out any batters while throwing 29 of his 45 pitches for strikes. The Angels have lost each of Rasmus' past five starts dating back to 2015, and he isn't likely long for the rotation at this rate. Fantasy owners need to avoid him until he straightens things out.

Angels | Garrett Richards won't make Friday start

Thu, 05 May 2016 15:10:39 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards (dehydration) has been scratched from his scheduled start against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, May 6. RP Cory Rasmus will receive the start.

Fantasy Tip: It's a bummer for Richards and his fantasy owners in what was a plus matchup. Keep an eye on how he progresses from his illness and be ready to plug him back in if he can make a start next week. Rasmus is a reliever and should be avoided everywhere. All Tampa hitters will be attractive in daily formats Friday night.

Angels | Cory Rasmus could start

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 18:11:30 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Cory Rasmus (abdomen) is an option to move into the rotation in place of the injured SP Jered Weaver (hip), according to manager Mike Scioscia. Rasmus would only be able to throw three or four innings, however, as he makes his way back from injury. Class AAA Salt Lake SPs Andrew Heaney, Drew Rucinski, Alex Sanabia, Nick Tropeano and Adam Wilk are also options.

Fantasy Tip: Rasmus should be avoided for fantasy purposes, at least initially, since he'll have an innings cap. Pitching just a few innings would not be attractive for FantasyScore owners.
