Rays | Tampa Bay could trade outfielder

Sun, 31 Jan 2016 08:32:04 -0800

The Tampa Bay Rays could wind up trading OF Desmond Jennings or OF Brandon Guyer due to a surplus of talent at the position due to several offseason acquisitions.

Fantasy Tip: The Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Washington Nationals are reportedly searching for outfield help and could be interested in either Jennings or Guyer if they are made available. Both players should only be considered for single-universe and cavernous mixed formats.

Rays | Desmond Jennings avoids arbitration

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 18:06:12 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal worth $3 million.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings played just 28 games last season due to a left knee injury and a tooth infection, batting .268 with a home run, seven RBIs and five steals in 108 at-bats. He could be a late-round steal in drafts for AL-only and deep mixed leagues if owners decide to shy away from him because of his injury history.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) can safely be dropped in all fantasy formats now. He finishes the season batting .268 with one home run and seven RBIs through 98 at-bats.

Rays | Desmond Jennings placed on 15-day DL

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 12:44:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings (knee) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, Aug. 27. In a corresponding move, OF Joey Butler was recalled from Class AAA Durham.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) appeared in 10 games before requiring another stint on the disabled list. At this point, he is nothing more than a desperation stash in deep mixed leagues. Butler is a low-end outfield option for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, and he stands as a potential value play in the right matchups for FantasyScore players.

Rays | Daniel Nava leading off vs. Twins

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 13:29:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Daniel Nava is leading off against Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey Wednesday, Aug. 26. OF Desmond Jennings (knee) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is day-to-day with a knee injury, so Nava ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) enters the lineup. It isn't a bad matchup, either, as Duffey ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is making just his fourth career start Wednesday. Just note, while cheap at FantasyScore, Nava is having a dreadful season and owns a .161/.282/.183 slash line over 111 plate appearances.

Rays | Desmond Jennings not expected Wednesday

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 09:11:03 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings (knee) is not expected to play Wednesday, Aug. 26, after bruising his left knee Tuesday, Aug. 25. It is the same knee that required surgery for bursitis and caused him to miss 96 games this year.

Fantasy Tip: Because it's Jennings' ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) same knee that required surgery earlier this year, you have to wonder if he'll land back on the DL. Avoid him for now on FantasyScore. Brandon Guyer ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) would likely benefit the most if Jennings misses extended time again.

Fantasy Tip: Sizemore ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has five of his six home runs against right-handed pitching in 2015, but he's also hitting only .233 (40-for-172) against them. He remains a low-end sleeper outfield selection on FantasyScore.

Rays | Desmond Jennings batting second

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 15:17:09 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings is batting second against Houston Astros SP Scott Kazmir Monday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Jennings ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is 5-for-10 since returning from the disabled list Friday, Aug. 14. While it is a small sample size, it is a positive for the outfielder. Still, you'll likely be able to find better matchups at FantasyScore, and Jennings likely should remained reserved to cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues.
