Rays | Matt Moore punches out nine

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 22:47:16 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore allowed three earned runs, three hits and two walks with nine strikeouts over seven innings in a loss Wednesday, April 27, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Moore has lasted at least 6 1/3 innings in each of his past four outings, and he has an impressive 1.03 WHIP and .217 opponent batting average despite his unimpressive 1-2 record. He remains a must-start fantasy option in most formats despite the fact he has dropped his past two outings.

Rays | Matt Moore fans 10 in win

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 13:26:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore struck out 10 batters in 6 1/3 innings Sunday, April 17, in a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Moore picked up his first win of the year and showed a lot of doubters he may be all the way back from 2014 Tommy John surgery. Make Moore one of your top fantasy starters as long as he is on this pace.

Rays | Matt Moore a bright spot for Tampa

Sun, 13 Mar 2016 05:01:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings against a New York Yankees split squad Saturday, March 12. He allowed two first-inning singles before retiring nine consecutive batters with three strikeouts and no walks.

"We've talked about all spring how he's been really a bright spot for us coming into camp, and he just continues to do that," manager Kevin Cash said. "He's really efficient. I mean his stuff looks powerful, kind of effortlessly, but very powerful."

Fantasy Tip: Moore is an excellent bounce-back candidate, and his strong spring is encouraging, especially after he finished 2015 with four strong starts (1.35 ERA). Target Moore in the late middle rounds for his upside to return SP3 numbers, and it isn't out of the question to reach a round or two early should he continue his strong spring.

Rays | Matt Moore to have innings limited?

Thu, 18 Feb 2016 11:48:27 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore may have his innings limited in 2016 after he threw only 114 innings last year returning from Tommy John surgery between the majors and minors. "Having some things put to rest, I knew when I let go of the ball that my arm feels good, that things with my elbow seemed to be in place and there was nothing that was bothering me going into the winter," Moore said. "That's probably one of the biggest things, not worrying about baseball."

Fantasy Tip: Moore's initial return from TJS was dreadful last year, but he finished strong down the stretch and gives hope for a rebound in 2016. However, his velocity is yet to get back to pre-injury form, and fantasy owners must remain patient. He's certainly worth a late-round stab in deep mixed leagues, though.

Rays | TB may deal another starting pitcher

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 14:03:52 -0800

The Tampa Bay Rays may deal another starting pitcher before spring training, with SP Drew Smyly and SP Matt Moore among the names discussed. SP Alex Cobb (elbow) will be back in August and several young arms will be ready during the season.

Fantasy Tip: Obviously, the draft stock of Smyly or Moore could go up if either one leaves Tampa Bay, so check and see if either pitcher is traded. Both players are still young and their best years are ahead. Moore could be a sleeper, as he will be nearly two years removed from Tommy John surgery at the start of the 2016 campaign.

Rays | Matt Moore finding form

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 08:14:47 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore is happy with the progress he has made since being sent to Class AAA Durham Monday, Aug. 3. "Now we're seeing things coming together -- the breaking ball is getting sharper, a better feel for the changeup, velocity on the fastball is getting a little more consistent. Those things all feel good and they're positive, so I would assume heading into the offseason we'll be very confident heading into spring training." Moore is starting against the Miami Marlins Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Moore ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has struck out 16 batters over 13 2/3 innings while allowing just two earned runs and a .188/.220/.250 slash line to opposing batters through his past two outings. He is a viable No. 2 starting pitcher option at FantasyScore Tuesday.

Rays | Matt Moore picks up win

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 20:27:24 -0700

Correcting a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore picked up the win over the Boston Red Sox Tuesday, Sept. 22, by allowing seven hits and two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out seven in the outing.

Fantasy Tip: Moore ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has had his ups and downs while coming back from Tommy John surgery, and his ERA now sits at 6.48 in 10 starts for the Rays. He'll remain a shaky FantasyScore commodity for the rest of the year, but he should be much better in 2016 as he rounds back into form.

Rays | Matt Moore on track for Saturday

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 13:56:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (knee) will throw a simulated game Wednesday, Sept. 23, which will put him on schedule to face the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday, Sept. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Moore ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has been a mixed bag since coming back up from the minors, and he's sporting an ugly 7.06 ERA on the season. You shouldn't be looking to start Moore in one of your pitching slots on FantasyScore this weekend against a scary Toronto offense.

Rays | Signs of life from Matt Moore

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 20:01:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore allowed two hits and struck out nine over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Baltimore Orioles Thursday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Moore ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) has been terrible since returning from Tommy John surgery, but he delivered a gem Thursday. However, he still owns a 7.06 ERA on the year, so you may want to wait until he has a couple of more solid outings before using him at FantasyScore.

Rays | Matt Moore to start Saturday

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 12:44:33 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore is scheduled to make the start against the New York Yankees Saturday, Sept. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Moore should remain fairly cheap on FantasyScore for his start against the Yankees this weekend. You'll probably want to steer clear of him in his first start back in the majors, though, as the Bronx Bombers own the fourth-best OPS (.775) against southpaws in 2015.
