Rays | Matt Moore rusty in first start back

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 16:41:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) showed his rust against the Cleveland Indians in his first start of the season Thursday, July 2, throwing three wild pitches and allowed four runs, six hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision. "I thought there might have been more nervous body-control type issues, but really it felt normal," said Moore, who threw 81 pitches in his first outing against major-league hitters in 451 days.

Fantasy Tip: The outing showed exactly why we said it was too risky to bet on Moore ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) in his first start back in over a year. You may want to play it safe and avoid him in his next start, too, depending on the opponent. The poor command is just a reminder that many starters struggle with location in their return from Tommy John surgery.

Rays | Matt Moore activated from DL

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 09:06:09 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) was activated from the disabled list Thursday, July 2, to face the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Moore ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is at a cheap price if you want to risk it, but it's his first start in a year due to Tommy John surgery. We'd avoid him on FantasyScore for a start or two.

Rays | Matt Moore says he is ready for Thursday

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 13:53:02 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) threw a bullpen session Monday, June 29, and said he is "definitely ready to go" for his start Thursday, July 2.

Fantasy Tip: Moore ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) should be owned in all seasonal formats, but for his season debut, he is a high-risk, high-reward start, especially at FantasyScore. Be patient as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery at the highest level and expect a few peaks and valleys.

Rays | Matt Moore set for Wednesday start

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 05:55:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) is expected to return to the rotation and pitch against the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, Moore should be owned in all seasonal formats. There may be a little inconsistency, both during outings and from start to start. However, his career 8.8 K/9 mark is worth targeting. You'll likely also want to be patient with him at FantasyScore initially.

Rays | Matt Moore needs one more rehab start

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 15:22:02 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) will make one more rehab start for Class AAA Durham Friday, June 26, before rejoining the rotation for the first time since April of 2014. Moore said he's ready after throwing a bullpen session Tuesday, June 23. If all goes well in his next rehab start, Moore would be in line to start against the Cleveland Indians next Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: It's understandable for fantasy owners to be hesistant to use Moore right when he returns next week on FantasyScore and in traditional leagues. He should be picked up immediately if he's still available in your league, as he can definitely help your staff in the second half of the season. Don't be surprised if he struggles with location or velocity out of the gate, though, as he makes his return from Tommy John surgery.

Rays | Matt Moore to throw 'pen session

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 06:32:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, June 23, after throwing 92 pitches in a rehab start at Class AAA Durham two days ago. Manager Kevin Cash said the team will decide Moore's next step after that.

Fantasy Tip: Give Moore a few starts to kick off the rust that pitchers usually have in their return from Tommy John surgery.

Rays | Matt Moore set for fourth start

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 05:57:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) will make his fourth minor league rehab start Sunday, June 21, for Class AAA Durham. Moore will throw 90 pitches Sunday, and he's expected to make one-to-two more rehab starts before joining the Rays.

Fantasy Tip: Moore should be owned in all but the shallowest of leagues. The Rays are expected to take the maximum allowed time before activating Moore, but there shouldn't be many concerns around his abilities by that point.

Rays | Matt Moore pitches well in rehab

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 21:54:34 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) felt good after his third minor-league rehab start, according to manager Kevin Cash. "Every outing it seems like he's getting more confident," Cash said Wednesday, June 17.

Fantasy Tip: Moore allowed two runs and four hits over 4 2/3 innings with Class A Charlotte. He’ll work Saturday for Class AAA Durham Saturday and then he might be in line for a return to the major league rotation. FantasyScore players want to see him officially return and prove his health in a full start before he can be trusted.

Rays | Matt Moore has next starts scheduled

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 15:55:05 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) is scheduled to make two more rehab starts. The first will be with Class A Charlotte Monday, June 15, and then Saturday, June 20, with Class AAA Durham. Moore said he could return to the Rays rotation after the Durham start.

Fantasy Tip: Moore is worth owning in all seasonal leagues at this point, and as soon as he proves his health in the majors, he'll be worth considering for FantasyScore contests. Still, setbacks could delay his return, and there are also adjustments to be made after Tommy John surgery and the significant absence that follows it. Viewing him as an end of the rotation fantasy arm is advised, but the upside for more is there.

Rays | Matt Moore sharp in rehab start

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 04:53:11 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore (elbow) looked solid in his latest rehab start for Class A Charlotte, as threw four scoreless innings.

Fantasy Tip: Moore is coming closer to giving the Rays a much-needed boost with his pitching. He should be a solid activation in all formats once healthy and with a start or two under his belt in the big leagues. Everything's looking solid so far.
