The Oakland Athletics, with the acquisition of SS Jed Lowrie, have given themselves insurance in case SS Hiroyuki Nakajima doesn't cut it at shortstop this year. If Nakajima struggles, Lowrie can play shortstop and Nakajima can slide over to second base and 3B Scott Sizemore can battle for playing time at third base with 3B Josh Donaldson. If Nakajima works out at shortstop, Lowrie can play third base. INFs Andy Parrino, Eric Sogard and Adam Rosales shore up the depth further.

Oakland Athletics 3B Scott Sizemore will see time at both second and third base in spring training, but third base will be 3B Josh Donaldson's job to lose. INFs Adam Rosales and Grant Green will also be given looks at those positions.

Oakland Athletics 3B Josh Donaldson's game-tying homer forced extra innings and OF Brandon Moss ended the game in the 10th inning with a three-run homer as Oakland stopped the Seattle Mariners, 7-4.

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics 3B Brandon Inge (shoulder) will play at least three games for Triple-A Sacramento as part of his rehab assignment. The team could consider having Inge and 3B Josh Donaldson share time at third base when Inge returns.

Oakland Athletics 3B Brandon Inge (shoulder) will serve as the designated hitter for Triple-A Sacramento in a rehab game Thursday, Aug. 23. Manager Bob Melvin won't commit to Inge being the regular third baseman when he's healthy, though. 3B Josh Donaldson has been hitting in Inge's absence.

The Oakland Athletics have recalled C Derek Norris from Triple-A Sacramento. In a corresponding move, the team optioned 3B Josh Donaldson to Triple-A Sacramento.

Fantasy Tip: Norris, who was acquired in the trade that sent hurler Gio Gonzalez to the Washington Nationals last December, has intrigue in deep mixed setups and two-catcher leagues due to his power potential. There's the possibility that the A's dangle the struggling Suzuki at the trade deadline, too.
