Braves | Personal catchers for Braves?

Tue, 05 May 2015 16:15:09 -0700

Atlanta Braves Cs A.J. Pierzynski and Christian Bethancourt could be paired with SPs Shelby Miller and Julio Teheran, respectively, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. Miller has worked with Pierzynski since the two were teammates with the St. Louis Cardinals last year. Miller's start Tuesday is his ninth career start with Pierzynski catching him, and Miller had a 4.29 ERA in six games with Pierzynski catching him last year. Teheran has made eight career starts with Bethancourt as his catcher and has a 2.23 ERA in those games.

Fantasy Tip: Pierzynski ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has seen the most of the playing time behind the plate thanks to his ridiculous start to the year, however, he's gone hitless the last two games. Pierzynski can't maintain that pace, and as soon as he starts slowing down, Bethancourt could see more of an even time split.

Braves | More fastball for Julio Teheran

Mon, 04 May 2015 19:47:48 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran pledged to use his fastball more, and he threw the pitch in 66.7 percent of his 101 pitches against the Cincinnati Reds Sunday, May 3. It was a season-high in fastball percentage for Teheran, while he threw a season-low 20.8 percent of sliders.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran was trying to mix in other pitches in his previous few starts, but he went 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA in the three starts before Sunday. Some were worried that he was healthy, but he was just being too fine. The power pitcher is a solid value at $7,400 (or 14.8% of cap) in FantasyScore.

Braves | Julio Teheran struggling with selection

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 10:17:26 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran threw his fastball 49.3% of the time in his last start, and manager Fredi Gonzalez said that split is too low. Gonzalez said Teheran's command and variation of his fastball is one of his strengths. Teheran's velocity was back up to 93 mph in that start after dipping as low as 88 mph. "He manages his fastball, both sides of the plate, elevates it and sinks it and his other stuff is off the fastball," Gonzalez said. "For whatever reason in the last couple starts he's doing it the other way around. Tomorrow when he throws his side (session) he's got to get back to that: four-seam (fastball), two-seam and locate his fastball and pitch off of his fastball."

Fantasy Tip: Teheran ($7,200, 14.4% of your cap) is at a robust price and until he regains his form, he's a matchup play on FantasyScore.

Braves | Julio Teheran is healthy

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 22:26:56 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran (knee) is healthy, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. The skipper was asked about the pitcher's knee after a subpar outing Tuesday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran has coughed up 12 earned runs over the past 15 innings in his previous three outings. FantasyScore owners would do well to avoid Teheran ($7,200; 14.4% of cap) until he can get untracked and start to show more consistency.

Braves | Julio Teheran struggling

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 12:27:42 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran is 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA over his last three starts and is allowing opponents to hit .333 off him during that span. Teheran said he is not dealing with any injuries and is not sure what is causing his location issues. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said he is a little worried about Teheran since his location is not like it was last season.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) played pretty well in his first two starts but has allowed at least four runs in each of his last three starts. Owners on FantasyScore may want to avoid Teheran until he is able to put a few good starts together.

Braves | Julio Teheran fine after knee tweak

Sat, 11 Apr 2015 19:14:04 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran (knee) suffered a tweak Saturday, April 11, against the New York Mets, but he is fine, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) allowed two hits, four walks and one earned run through six full innings pitched. There doesn't seem to be any doubt that Teheran will make his next start, and owners shouldn't be concerned.

Braves | Julio Teheran to start on OD

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 13:08:23 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran will start on opening day April 6 against the Miami Marlins on the road, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran ($7,600, 15.2% of cap) went 14-13 with a 2.89 ERA and 1.08 WHIP and 186 strikeouts in 221 innings in 2014 with the Braves. Teheran has really come into his own in Atlanta's rotation and is just a notch below the rest of the fantasy baseball aces. Don't expect many wins from Teheran this year with a lackluster offense backing him, but a matchup in Miami on opening day makes him definitely worth consideration at FantasyScore.

Braves | Rotation in flux

Mon, 14 Jul 2014 14:02:18 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Ervin Santana will pitch Friday, July 18, the team's first game after the All-Star break, against the Philadelphia Phillies, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. Gonzalez has not confirmed the rotation after Santana, but said it depends on if SP Julio Teheran will get one or two days of extra rest. Teheran will pitch Saturday, July 19, or Sunday, July 20. Expect left-handed SPs Mike Minor and Alex Wood to be split up in the rotation and not pitch consecutively. Wood and Minor will either pitch the second and fourth or the third and fifth games out of the break. SP Aaron Harang will pitch the fourth or fifth game coming out of the break.

Fantasy Tip: Santana gets an excellent chance to start strong in the second half against the Phillies' weak offense. Otherwise, check back for further details, but the Miami Marlins head to Atlanta Monday, July 21, which is another plus-matchup.
