Braves | Julio Teheran is hard-luck loser

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 21:12:30 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran allowed just one earned run, six hits and three walks over seven innings with eight strikeouts in a loss Monday, April 25, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran slipped to 0-3 on the season, but he is still not a terrible fantasy option, especially at home. He is 0-2 with a 3.63 ERA with two quality starts in four home outings. Just beware if you use him in fantasy leagues and DFS that he doesn't get a ton of run support. In five starts the Braves have provided a total of 10 runs, all losses.

Braves | Julio Teheran will start Wednesday

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 10:33:42 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran (illness) will make the start against the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday, April 20, after being scratched due to sickness Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran has left a lot to be desired after his first three starts (0-2, 6.35 ERA), but he's also faced the Cardinals once and the Nationals twice. Things don't get any easier facing the Blue in this one, and he may still be weakened after dealing with flu-like symptoms. It doesn't seem to be worth the risk to take the chance on him today.

Braves | Williams Perez starting Tuesday

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 12:22:03 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez will start Tuesday, April 19, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. SP Julio Teheran has been bumped to Wednesday, April 20. No reason was given for the switch in rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran has had his issues this season with a 6.35 earned run average. Perez hasn't done better, with no decisions and a 7.00 ERA. Combine that with the Dodgers' potent lineup and you have two pitchers with little fantasy value for the time being.

Braves | Julio Teheran roughed up again

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 16:28:04 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran allowed six earned runs through seven innings during the Braves' 6-2 loss to the Washington Nationals Thursday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: Through his first three starts, Teheran is winless and owns a 6.35 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP, and he has just 14 strikeouts through 17 innings. There isn't a lot to like about Teheran's bounce-back potential after he struggled in 2015, either. Hopefully you weren't relying on Teheran to be anything more than a supporting piece of your fantasy rotation. In shallow leagues, it isn't out of the question to replace the reeling righty.

Cardinals | Jeremy Hazelbaker starting in center

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 14:21:13 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jeremy Hazelbaker will bat second and play center field against Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran on Saturday, April 9.

Fantasy Tip: Hazelbaker has connected on two homers in six at-bats this season and gets the start in place of Randal Grichuk, who is 1-for-14 with eight strikeouts coming out of the gate. The 28-year-old journeyman is worth a shot in DFS on Saturday, but Hazelbaker's 2016 sample size is much too small for year-long owners to forget seven years' worth of mediocre numbers in the minors.

Braves | Julio Teheran sharp at home

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 19:13:29 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran allowed two earned runs, five hits and three walks with four strikeouts over six innings in a quality start and no-decision Monday, April 4, against the Washington Nationals.

Fantasy Tip: Last season, Teheran was 8-2 with a 2.89 ERA in 17 starts with a .211 opponent batting average, while going 3-6 with a 5.40 ERA over 16 road starts with a .298 opponent average. Remember that in DFS play when Teheran is toeing the slab at Turner Field.

Braves | Julio Teheran sharp in final spring start

Wed, 30 Mar 2016 11:30:26 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran pitched five scoreless innings with four hits allowed in his final spring training start Wednesday, March 30.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran entered the outing with a 2.65 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP through 17 innings, but he only struck out nine batters. Over the past three seasons, Teheran has an underwhelming 7.8 K/9, too, so his lack of strikeouts limits his fantasy upside. Additionally, with wins likely tough to come by pitching for a weak team, Teheran's fantasy contributions may only come in two categories. Don't count on him as anything more than a No. 4 or 5 starter.

Braves | Julio Teheran spins solid spring outing

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 13:43:38 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran threw six scoreless innings with just four hits allowed and one walk while striking out five batters Friday, March 25.

Fantasy Tip: Teheran had a rough 2015 season (4.04 ERA and 1.31 WHIP) and pitches for a weak team, so while there is bounce-back potential, you don't want to reach for him until well into the middle rounds. There is upside, though, as Teheran registered a 3.03 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP through 63 starts during the 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Braves | Julio Teheran so-so in latest outing

Sun, 20 Mar 2016 06:25:37 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran allowed three earned runs on six hits through 4 1/3 innings during his spring training start against the New York Yankees Saturday, March 19. He threw three scoreless innings before surrendering all three runs in the fourth inning.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez was still impressed, though. "I thought it was a solid outing, I really did," Gonzalez said. "I'll take that outing and continue going forward and keep stretching him out. I liked what I saw."

Fantasy Tip: After posting a 3.03 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP through 63 starts during the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Teheran regressed in 2015 with a 4.04 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. Entering his age-25 season, there is all kinds of rebound potential, but pitching for a poor team doesn't help. Don't look for Teheran until the middle rounds of mixed league drafts.
