Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy heads into the All-Star break with a 5-9 record over 19 appearances (13 starts), but he has an impressive 2.76 ERA and opponents are hitting just .208 against him with a 1.10 WHIP.
Fantasy Tip: Duffy hasn't received a whole lot of support when it has been his turn in the rotation, but he is pitching well and fantasy owners have to be happy with his 67 strikeouts through 84 2/3 innings, too. He is a must-start in all AL-only fantasy formats, as well as most mixed leagues.

Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy will not have an innings limit this season despite it being his first MLB action since his 2012 Tommy John surgery, according to the team. Kansas City plans on going "start to start and month to month" to monitor his condition, according to general manager Dayton Moore. He's on pace to cross the 150 innings pitched threshold, majors and minors combined, in the middle of September. Duffy's fastball velocity has improved, recently returning to the upper 90s at its peak.
Fantasy Tip: Duffy is a fine add in deep mixed leagues; he will continue to struggle with walks, but his K production is a nice advantage to the back end of a fantasy staff.

Kansas City Royals SP Danny Duffy will slide into the starting rotation and take the spot of SP Bruce Chen (back). Chen's next turn in the rotation was scheduled for Saturday, May 3, against the Detroit Tigers.
Fantasy Tip: His return from Tommy John surgery last year was positive, aside from the poor control that he showed late in the year. His WHIP is under a walk per nine in relief this year, though, so if he can take that improvement to the starting rotation, there's definite profit to be made. Acquire him immediately in AL-only leagues.

The Kansas City Royals placed SP Bruce Chen (back) on the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 2, and recalled RP Aaron Brooks from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: It's not official as to who will replace Chen in the rotation, but the smart money is on it being Danny Duffy. AL-only managers in need of pitching help should look to acquire the southpaw immediately.

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost is expecting SP Bruce Chen (back) to land on the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: Danny Duffy, who is already on the team's active roster, seems like the most logical choice to take Chen's spot in the rotation. Add him immediately in AL-only leagues.

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost said SP Yordano Ventura will be the team's No. 3 starter behind SPs James Shields and Jason Vargas to open the season. Ventura struck out six in six innings Monday, March 17. SP Danny Duffy will now be given a chance to win a spot in the bullpen.
Fantasy Tip: Ventura, despite his size, has an electric arm that can touch triple digits. His strikeout upside is extremely high, but he'll have to be consistent with his secondary offerings to survive in the bigs. Now that he's got a firm rotation spot, his inflated draft value seems more justified.
