Royals | Yordano Ventura to be No. 3 starter

Tue, 18 Mar 2014 10:09:05 -0700

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost said SP Yordano Ventura will be the team's No. 3 starter behind SPs James Shields and Jason Vargas to open the season. Ventura struck out six in six innings Monday, March 17. SP Danny Duffy will now be given a chance to win a spot in the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Ventura, despite his size, has an electric arm that can touch triple digits. His strikeout upside is extremely high, but he'll have to be consistent with his secondary offerings to survive in the bigs. Now that he's got a firm rotation spot, his inflated draft value seems more justified.

Royals | Expect Yordano Ventura to make roster

Sat, 08 Feb 2014 09:42:42 -0800

Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore said SPs James Shields, Jason Vargas, Jeremy Guthrie and Bruce Chen are penciled into the rotation to start the year. Moore suggested that SP Yordano Ventura may have a leg up on the competition for the fifth and final rotation spot this spring. Moore also said they won't hesitate to use Ventura in the bullpen "if that's how it unfolds." "We think he's ready for the major leagues. Certainly spring training will help validate that opinion," Moore said, adding, "We expect him to be one of our 12 pitchers when we break camp unless something unforeseen happens." Ps Luke Hochevar, Wade Davis, Danny Duffy and Chris Dwyer are all a notch behind Ventura heading into spring training.

Royals | Yordano Ventura to start Tuesday

Mon, 16 Sep 2013 15:18:22 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura will make his major league debut and start against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, Sept. 17, taking the place of SP Danny Duffy (elbow). Ventura went 5-4 with a 3.74 ERA with Triple-A Omaha this season.

Fantasy Tip: Ventura is one of the team's top pitching prospects with an electric arm; his fastball can reach the upper 90s on occasion. He has high strikeout upside but might be rough around the edges in his first taste of MLB action. It wouldn't be wise to rely on him this late in a mixed league.
