San Francisco Giants OF Charlie Culberson was used in the No. 5 spot with Triple-A Fresno, but he said Wednesday, May 16, that he sees himself as a better fit in the two-hole, which is where he is slotted Wednesday by manager Bruce Bochy.

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Monday, May 14, that he is impressed with SS Charlie Culberson. "He's not afraid," Bochy said. Culberson can provide a right-handed bat at the bottom of the order, and he was slotted seventh in the lineup Monday.

The San Francisco Giants have activated RP Jeremy Affeldt from the 15-day disabled list (knee) and recalled 2B Charlie Culberson from Triple-A Fresno. Culberson is expected to be in the starting lineup Sunday, May 13, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In corresponding moves, the team has optioned INF Conor Gillaspie to the minors and designated SP Travis Blackley for assignment.

The team optioned SS Ehire Adrianza, RP Jose Casilla, 3B Conor Gillaspie, RP Alex Hinshaw, OF Thomas Neal, OF Francisco Peguero, P Henry Sosa and SP Clayton Tanner to the minors. The team also reassigned OF Gary Brown, SS Brandon Crawford, SS Charlie Culberson, OF Terry Evans, RP Waldis Joaquin, C Tommy Joseph, SS Nick Noonan, OF Juan Perez, P Wilmin Rodriguez, C Hector Sanchez, P Jason Stoffel, P Ryan Verdugo and P Matt Yourkin to the minor league camp.
