Tigers | Miguel Cabrera suffers leg injury

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 17:17:26 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera (leg) left the game against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, July 3, after suffering a leg injury while running the bases. Cabrera came up limping during an apparent hit-and-run attempt in the bottom of the fourth inning. He was replaced in the game by INF Andrew Romine.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera ($6,300, 12.6% of cap) was batting .345 with 15 home runs and 53 RBIs through 76 games entering play Friday, July 3. If he is sidelined for an extended period of time, DH/1B Victor Martinez would probably see regular playing time in the field. Check back for updates on Cabrera's status.

Tigers | Detroit sticking with Nick Castellanos

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 14:39:01 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is sticking at third base despite a surge by SS Andrew Romine lately. Romine was 6-for-15 (.400) in the last four games with three doubles, two home runs and three RBI, while Castellanos is hitting only .224 with 10 doubles, four triples and four home runs with 28 RBI in 70 games this year. "I think he's going to be fine," manager Brad Ausmus said of Castellanos. "He looked better the last few days after taking the better part of three games off. ... Sometimes you get paralyzed when you're trying to fix everything. You're trying to fix your hands, fix your feet. You get paralyzed because you're thinking about everything except the one thing you should be thinking about and that's the ball."

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) isn't out of the woods yet after getting two hits Thursday. Those in need of middle infield help in AL-only leagues should stash Romine ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) just in case. Tonight on FantasyScore, Castellanos could pay off as a sleeper pick, as he's hitting .295 (13-for-44) against southpaws this season. He's facing Chicago White Sox starter Jose Quintana.

Tigers | Miguel Cabrera takes a seat

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 06:41:31 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera is out of the lineup Wednesday, June 24, with SS Andrew Romine in at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Romine ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is 5-for-12 with two homers in his last three games. They're finding ways to keep him in the lineup. Maybe you should find a spot for him on FantasyScore today against Carlos Carrasco.

Tigers | Jose Iglesias takes a seat

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 13:05:47 -0700

Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias is out of the lineup Tuesday, June 23, in favor of 3B Andrew Romine.

Fantasy Tip: Romine has stolen a lot of playing time from struggling 3B Nick Castellanos, who is in at third today. At $2,000 (4.0% of cap), Romine's .276-1-5 line on the season doesn't lend much upside as he's hitting eighth against Danny Salazar.

Tigers | Andrew Romine taking over at third?

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 12:40:34 -0700

Detroit Tigers SS Andrew Romine is starting at third base and batting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer Monday, June 22.

Fantasy Tip: This will be Romine's ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) third consecutive start at the hot corner, and with Nick Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) struggling, Romine's value is on the rise. Romine hit a home run Sunday, June 21, and he qualifies as a low-priced flier for FantasyScore contests Monday. AL-only owners could take a speculative flier on Romine, if shortstop or third base is a position of need.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos on the bench

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 07:32:05 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is not in the starting lineup against Masahiro Tanaka Sunday, June 21. SS Andrew Romine will start at third base and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is hitting only .176 this month and has not recorded an RBI in his last eight games. Romine ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has gone hitless in his last nine games and should not be a starting option on FantasyScore.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos out of lineup

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 14:02:42 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is out of the starting lineup Saturday, June 20, against the New York Yankees. SS Andrew Romine will start at third and bat eighth in the lineup against RHP Nathan Eovaldi.

Fantasy Tip: Romine ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a switch-hitter, but he fares considerably better from the left-hand side of the plate and hits for a .316 average against righties. While Romine lacks pop and power, he'll make for a worthy GPP option on FantasyScore.

Tigers | Andrew Romine in at 3B

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 07:04:09 -0700

Detroit Tigers SS Andrew Romine will start at third base Sunday, June 14, against the Cleveland Indians. Romine will hit eighth in the order against RHP Corey Kluber. 3B Nick Castellanos comes out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Romine ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a switch-hitter who is hitting .353 against right-handed pitching this season. Regardless of the inflated average, Romine should be avoided on FantasyScore, due to a difficult matchup against Kluber and the spot at the bottom of the batting order.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos not in lineup Sunday

Sun, 31 May 2015 14:07:01 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 31, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. 3B Andrew Romine is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is taking a bench seat for tonight, so leave him out of your starting lineup. Romine ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is 4-for-8 in his last four games, so he is worth activating at this low price.

Tigers | Andrew Romine in at short

Tue, 26 May 2015 16:22:05 -0700

Detroit Tigers SS Andrew Romine will start at shortstop and bat eighth in the order Tuesday, May 26, against the Oakland Athletics. SS Jose Iglesias is out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Romine ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) went 2-for-4 Saturday, May 24, and he scored a run for the second time in three games. With Romine's price at the minimum, and the top of the batting order batting behind him, Romine can be considered in GPP contests.
