Thu, 11 Apr 2013 11:49:05 -0700 Oakland Athletics 2B Eric Sogard will see the bulk of playing time at second base with 2B Scott Sizemore (knee) out for the year. INF Andy Parrino was called up over 2B Jemile Weeks because of his versatility. SS Hiroyuki Nakajima could work out at second base with Triple-A Sacramento now, too, and it might be a better fit for him at the big league level than shortstop, Susan Slusser speculates. Weeks and 2B Grant Green could also be used at the keystone at some point this year. Fantasy Tip: Right now, Sogard is the only player worth owning at this spot, but only in AL-only formats. Weeks may be the best speculative add in those same leagues if he can prove to the club that he deserves another shot. This very well could be a revolving door, though, so don't invest a ton.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 12:51:02 -0700 The Oakland Athletics are seriously considering sending SS Hiroyuki Nakajima to the minors to start the season. He's hitless in eight straight spring games and is batting only .150. Nakajima clearly hasn't been comfortable, and the team wants him in a groove before he plays in major league games that count. SS Jed Lowrie would likely start at shortstop if Nakajima is sent down. 2B Scott Sizemore is the leading candidate to win the second base job after playing well lately. INFs Eric Sogard and Adam Rosales remain in the mix as well at the keystone. Fantasy Tip: Lowrie would have likely played enough to warrant consideration in deep enough mixed leagues as a middle infielder even with Nakajima on the roster. Now, it seems, he'll be the starter. Lowrie's power will probably take a hit with the move to Oakland, but you can't ignore the fact that he's getting the PT now.
Sun, 24 Mar 2013 19:08:02 -0700 Oakland Athletics 2B Scott Sizemore (knee) remains in the mix for the starting second base job after 2B Jemile Weeks was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento Sunday, March 24, but the hot-hitting 3B Eric Sogard and SS Adam Rosales are also in the competition.
Mon, 18 Mar 2013 00:23:27 -0700 Oakland Athletics 2B Eric Sogard is hitting .500 (15-for-30) for the spring and looking increasingly like someone who could be a surprise starter for the Athletics to open the season. The team wants to go with INF Jed Lowrie at second base and SS Hiroyuki Nakajima at shortstop, but Sogard could push Lowrie to short if this continues.
Sat, 23 Feb 2013 10:09:14 -0800 Oakland Athletics 3B Eric Sogard has rejoined the team after having left camp due to the death of his grandmother.
Mon, 04 Feb 2013 15:13:14 -0800 The Oakland Athletics, with the acquisition of SS Jed Lowrie, have given themselves insurance in case SS Hiroyuki Nakajima doesn't cut it at shortstop this year. If Nakajima struggles, Lowrie can play shortstop and Nakajima can slide over to second base and 3B Scott Sizemore can battle for playing time at third base with 3B Josh Donaldson. If Nakajima works out at shortstop, Lowrie can play third base. INFs Andy Parrino, Eric Sogard and Adam Rosales shore up the depth further.
Fri, 21 Sep 2012 16:44:28 -0700 Oakland Athletics INF Eric Sogard (back) is participating in baseball activities but isn't close to returning. "He's doing some baseball activity, but I don't think you're looking at a potential option in the coming days," manager Bob Melvin said. "We'll see where he's at when we get home, but it's not something we're looking at now, certainly on this road trip."
Tue, 04 Sep 2012 06:08:02 -0700 Oakland Athletics INF Eric Sogard (ankle) is unlikely to return from a high ankle sprain this season.
Mon, 27 Aug 2012 15:19:29 -0700 Updating a previous item, Oakland Athletics INF Eric Sogard (ankle, back) was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.
Mon, 27 Aug 2012 14:43:39 -0700 Oakland Athletics 3B Eric Sogard (back, ankle) is dealing with a sprained ankle.
