Oakland Athletics SS Jed Lowrie (finger) said he expects to be placed on the 15-day disabled list, because he is not helping the team. Lowrie said he has tried to take part in baseball activities, but the finger is affecting his play.
Fantasy Tip: Alberto Callaspo and Eric Sogard could see time at shortstop if Lowrie is placed on the disabled list. Neither player has much value outside of AL-only leagues.

Oakland Athletics 2B Eric Sogard (knee) has a bruised knee but believes he'll be ready Tuesday, May 20.

Oakland Athletics manager said 2B Alberto Callaspo is likely to see less playing time with 1B Kyle Blanks on the roster. Callaspo could see more at-bats at second base, but Melvin is currently happy with the platoon there between 2Bs Eric Sogard and Nick Punto.

Oakland Athletics INF Nick Punto is expected to be part of a platoon at second base next year with 2B Eric Sogard. Punto played second, shortstop and third base last year. The A's may try 3B Alberto Callaspo at first base next season.

Oakland Athletics SS Adam Rosales is left without a regular spot following the acquisition of 2B Alberto Callaspo from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Tuesday, July 30. Callaspo will be the team's everyday second baseman, 3B Josh Donaldson is entrenched at the hot corner and SS Jed Lowrie will occasionally be spelled by 2B Eric Sogard, who can play shortstop.
Fantasy Tip: If you own Rosales in AL-only fantasy play for some reason, drop him. He isn't expected to see enough at-bats to warrant much in the way of fantasy consideration.

Oakland Athletics 2B Eric Sogard was promoted to the two-hole by manager Bob Melvin for the game Monday, July 29, against the Toronto Blue Jays. He entered the game with 11 hits over his past 27 at-bats, but was hitless in four at-bats Monday.

Oakland Athletics 2B Eric Sogard will serve as the backup to SS Jed Lowrie at shortstop after SS Adam Rosales was designated for assignment. 2B Grant Green could also receive some playing time at shortstop.

The Oakland Athletics will promote 2B Grant Green from Class AAA Sacramento to start Monday, July 8. He's likely to platoon with Eric Sogard as the minority end against left-handed arms. A corresponding move for Green's call-up will be announced tomorrow.
Fantasy Tip: Green had a .318-11-49 line in 352 at-bats in Triple-A play this year. He's been playing the keystone all season after trying to stick as a shortstop and outfielder. An easy transition to the bigs would solve a major problem for this offense. Green could earn the right to everyday at-bats and aid deep-mixed owners in search of middle-infield help.

Oakland Athletics 2B Eric Sogard will see the bulk of playing time at second base with 2B Scott Sizemore (knee) out for the year. INF Andy Parrino was called up over 2B Jemile Weeks because of his versatility. SS Hiroyuki Nakajima could work out at second base with Triple-A Sacramento now, too, and it might be a better fit for him at the big league level than shortstop, Susan Slusser speculates. Weeks and 2B Grant Green could also be used at the keystone at some point this year.
Fantasy Tip: Right now, Sogard is the only player worth owning at this spot, but only in AL-only formats. Weeks may be the best speculative add in those same leagues if he can prove to the club that he deserves another shot. This very well could be a revolving door, though, so don't invest a ton.

The Oakland Athletics are seriously considering sending SS Hiroyuki Nakajima to the minors to start the season. He's hitless in eight straight spring games and is batting only .150. Nakajima clearly hasn't been comfortable, and the team wants him in a groove before he plays in major league games that count. SS Jed Lowrie would likely start at shortstop if Nakajima is sent down. 2B Scott Sizemore is the leading candidate to win the second base job after playing well lately. INFs Eric Sogard and Adam Rosales remain in the mix as well at the keystone.
Fantasy Tip: Lowrie would have likely played enough to warrant consideration in deep enough mixed leagues as a middle infielder even with Nakajima on the roster. Now, it seems, he'll be the starter. Lowrie's power will probably take a hit with the move to Oakland, but you can't ignore the fact that he's getting the PT now.
