New York Mets SP Jeremy Hefner was battered for six runs in 3 2/3 innings in an 11-5 San Diego Padres rout Thursday, May 24, at Citi Field. Hefner performed well in his first two innings before a 68-minute rain delay interrupted. "We haven't had time to discuss it yet," Mets manager Terry Collins said, "where we're headed and what we're gonna do." Sources indicated Hefner could get another turn.

New York Mets SP Chris Schwinden is unlikely to receive a third start in the rotation. The three realistic options to take the spot are Ps Jeremy Hefner, Garrett Olson and Miguel Batista. Hefner and Olson are both pitching at Class AAA. Ps Zack Wheeler, Matt Harvey and Jeurys Familia are not options.

New York Mets SP Chris Schwinden is expected to take SP Mike Pelfrey's (elbow) spot in the starting rotation, beginning Friday, April 27. P Jeremy Hefner isn't eligible after being sent down and SP Chris Young (shoulder) is two weeks away from a minor league rehab start. General manager Sandy Alderson has ruled out Ps Matt Harvey and Jeurys Familia.
