Wed, 10 Apr 2013 21:27:57 -0700 New York Mets SP Jeremy Hefner was pounded for five earned runs, six hits and three walks over three innings in a loss Wednesday, April 10, against the Philadelphia Phillies. All five runs came in a rough first innings. Fantasy Tip: Hefner has struggled in his career against the Phillies, posting a 15.68 ERA in four appearances (three starts). The way he is going, Hefner isn't even worth a look in the deepest of NL-only fantasy formats right now.
Thu, 28 Mar 2013 13:00:18 -0700 New York Mets SP Jeremy Hefner (elbow) is expected to pitch one or two innings in the next day or two before he starts the fourth game of the regular season.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 12:59:04 -0700 New York Mets SP Jeremy Hefner's (elbow) X-rays came back negative, and he's dealing with a right elbow contusion.
Tue, 26 Mar 2013 12:05:01 -0700 New York Mets SP Jeremy Hefner (elbow) was hit on his right elbow by a comebacker Tuesday, March 26, and was forced to leave his start early. He will undergo X-rays, but the team doesn't think the injury is serious. Fantasy Tip: Hefner is already filling in in the rotation with Johan Santana (shoulder) starting on the DL. If Hefner's injury is serious, either Collin McHugh or Aaron Laffey would likely take his place.
Wed, 13 Mar 2013 12:04:06 -0700 New York Mets SP Johan Santana (shoulder) is unlikely to be ready to start the season on time, and SP Jeremy Hefner is being stretched out to fill Santana's void in the opening day rotation. "As you get older, you have to work more. There's no question about it. But you have to know yourself very well. That's what I do. I'm listening to my body the whole time. When you need time, you take time to make sure you move forward. You don't want a step back," Santana said. Fantasy Tip: Santana is more risk than reward at this point of his career, and he's not worth anything more than a late-round flier in cavernous leagues. Hefner should only be considered in NL-only formats.
Mon, 25 Feb 2013 15:59:07 -0800 New York Mets SP Johan Santana has looked strong while throwing on flat ground, and the team hopes to have him pitching in spring games by March 10 or 11 so that he'll be ready by opening day. SPs Jeremy Hefner and Collin McHugh are options if Santana isn't ready for the start of the season. SPs Zack Wheeler and Rafael Montero are also in the consideration.
Fri, 22 Feb 2013 10:39:09 -0800 New York Mets SPs Jenrry Mejia, Zack Wheeler and Jeremy Hefner have a shot to be a part of the opening day rotation if SP Johan Santana isn't ready to go. General manager Sandy Alderson said it's still a possibility that Santana could open the season on the disabled list.
Tue, 19 Feb 2013 01:59:34 -0800 Although New York Mets SP Jeremy Hefner may start the season at Triple-A since he has one minor league option left, the team has no plans to expose him to waivers or trade him. Hefner, who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates last season on waivers, has performed up to expectations for the Mets and he may be a low-cost option in the rotation if need be.
Mon, 18 Feb 2013 15:07:12 -0800 The New York Mets are expected to shop 2B Justin Turner, according to a source close to the team's plans. Turner could also open the season with Triple-A Las Vegas if he isn't dealt since he has an option remaining. The Mets may want to get INFs Brandon Hicks and Omar Quintanilla on the roster as infielders. INF Zach Lutz could also sneak onto the roster if Turner is dealt. RP Jeremy Hefner appears to be too valuable to risk on waivers, so he looks to be a lock for the 40-man roster.
Mon, 28 Jan 2013 07:51:50 -0800 New York Mets SP Jenrry Mejia would have to make the team as a reliever, or he'll begin the season at Triple-A Las Vegas. SP Jeremy Hefner would have to make the team as a long reliever or head to Triple-A as well.
