Oakland Athletics assistant general manager David Forst said Wednesday, Dec. 28, that RPs Grant Balfour, Fautino De Los Santos and Joey Devine are all candidates for the closer's job following the trade of RP Andrew Bailey to the Boston Red Sox.

Oakland Athletics skipper Bob Melvin said that he is slowly moving RP Brian Fuentes back into a prominent role in the back end of the bullpen. Fuentes and RP Fautino De Los Santos are expected to share the seventh inning.

The Oakland Athletics placed SP Tyson Ross (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique Friday, May 20. SP Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) was also put on the disabled list with a stress fracture in his right scapula. Ps Joey Devine, Fautino De Los Santos and Jerry Blevins were all recalled from the minors, while RP Trystan Magnuson was sent down.

Players reassigned to minor league camp included P's Joe Bateman, Vinnie Chulk, Gabe DeHoyos, Fautino De Los Santos, Willie Eyre and Pedro Figueroa; C Max Stassi; 1B Sean Doolittle; 2B Adrian Cardenas and SS Josh Horton.
