Indians | Carlos Carrasco flirts with no-hitter

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 19:55:40 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco (10-6) allowed one run on one hit over 8 2/3 innings in a victory over the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, July 1, with two walks and 13 strikeouts. He carried a perfect game into the seventh inning, retiring the first 19 batters before walking OF Joey Butler. However, Carrasco kept the no-hitter until allowing a single to Butler on an 0-2 count with two outs in the ninth inning. This marked the third consecutive night the Indians have carried a perfect game into the sixth inning against the Rays and if he had been successful, it would have been the first Cleveland no-hitter since 1981.

Fantasy Tip: With the win, Carrasco ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) reached double-digit victories for the first time in his major league career. He ended up throwing a career-high 124 pitches in the game, so it will be interesting to see how he bounces back in his next scheduled start against the Houston Astros next week.

Indians | Carlos Carrasco shuts down Tigers

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 16:13:18 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco took a two-hit shutout into the seventh inning in a victory over the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, June 24. He ended the day giving up five hits and two runs while striking out seven. Carrasco entered the game with a 6.93 career ERA against the Tigers. He finished the day with a season ERA of 4.16.

Fantasy Tip: Carrasco ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) has been a very valuable fantasy baseball starter this year, despite what his ERA might suggest. He entered the game with a 10.0 K/9 and added seven more K's this afternoon. He'll continue to be a strong FantasyScore option heading into the All-Star break.

Indians | Carlos Carrasco to face Detroit

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 21:46:31 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco is the probable pitcher for Wednesday, June 24, against the Detroit Tigers. He is 1-1 with a 7.20 ERA in two outings against the Tigers this season.

Fantasy Tip: The Tigers have run roughshod over the Indians this season, so Carrasco ($6,600; or 13.2% of cap) is not a recommended FantasyScore play.

Indians | Carlos Carrasco gaining form

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 06:01:38 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco struck out eight and allowed three runs and seven hits over 5 2/3 innings Saturday, June 13, against the Detroit Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: As Carrasco's ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) 4.38 ERA continues to approach his 2.85 xFIP his fantasy value will continue to rise. Carrasco still owns one of the league's elite strikeout rates at 10.34, making him a high reward play on FantasyScore, despite the risk he carries.

Indians | Carlos Carrasco dethrones Royals

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 20:48:47 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over seven innings to record his seventh win during Cleveland's 2-1 win over the Kansas City Royals Tuesday, June 2.

Fantasy Tip: Carrasco ($6,600, 12.2% of cap) has been a little inconsistent early on this season, however he has now posted four consecutive starts with at least seven punchouts and three consecutive with two earned runs allowed or fewer. After his sterling finish to the 2014 season, it appears Carrasco is settling in, and he is now up to seven wins this season. FantasyScore players could grab ace upside at a mid-tier price with Carrasco for his next start against the Baltimore Orioles Sunday, June 7.

Indians | Carlos Carrasco sharp against Texas

Wed, 27 May 2015 13:34:20 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco allowed just a solo home run in eight sharp innings to beat the Texas Rangers Wednesday, May 27. He allowed just five hits and struck out eight hitters to improve to 6-4 on the season. He walked one and threw 70 of his 105 pitches for strikes. Carrasco's season ERA now sits at 4.24.

Fantasy Tip: Carrasco ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) is pitching much better than his ERA and 1.26 WHIP may suggest, and he should continue to be a solid FantasyScore option throughout the season. The right-hander is striking out 10.6 hitters per nine innings in 2015.

Indians | Carlos Carrasco due for improvement?

Wed, 27 May 2015 05:28:04 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco has the largest differential between his ERA (4.74) and his FIP (2.64) in the league. Carrasco is starting against the Texas Rangers Wednesday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Clearly, Carrasco's defense has let him down, and while he is due for correction, it might not start Wednesday against the surging Rangers. Texas has won seven consecutive runs and scored 49 runs -- seven per game -- in the process. FantasyScore players should view Carrasco as a high-risk, high-reward option Wednesday, but seasonal owners might have a buy-low opportunity on their hands.

Indians | Carlos Carrasco set to start

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 22:36:56 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco (face) is scheduled to make his first start Tuesday, April 21, against the Chicago White Sox since being struck in the face by a line drive last time out.

Fantasy Tip: Carrasco had his start pushed back a day, but is expected to be just fine. However, FantasyScore owners might want to avoid him at $6,900 (or 13.8% of cap), especially since he is facing the same team which hit him and he might be a little gun shy.

Indians | Carlos Carrasco throws bullpen

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 16:05:33 -0700

Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco (jaw) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session Friday, April 17, and he looked fine, according to pitching coach Mickey Calloway. Carrasco's jaw is still sore, however.

Fantasy Tip: Carrasco ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) dodged a bullet in his last outing, and he's scheduled to make his next start Monday against the Chicago White Sox on the road. Carrasco looked great in his first outing of the year and should be good to go for a FantasyScore lineup spot against the struggling White Sox.

Indians | Tests negative on Carlos Carrasco

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 09:02:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco's (face, jaw) X-rays and CT scan came back negative Tuesday, April 14, and he was diagnosed with a bad bruise on his jaw, according to manager Terry Francona. Carrasco returned to the stadium before the game ended Tuesday, and he'll be re-evaluated Wednesday, April 15.

Fantasy Tip: Carrasco ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) definitely dodged a huge bullet Tuesday night, and he's fortunate things didn't turn out worse. As of now, it looks like he'll be able to make his next start April 20. After a dominant first outing of the season last week, Carrasco should be considered a solid FantasyScore play against the Chicago White Sox.
