San Diego Padres C Derek Norris is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 27. C Christian Bethancourt is starting behind the plate and batting sixth against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: If you can stomach the sub-.200 batting average, Norris can help in the counting stats given his 41 runs, 12 home runs and 33 RBI this season. However, he's likely best left to deep mixed, two-catcher and NL-only leagues. Bethancourt has a respectable .259/.300/.429 slash line for a backstop, but he isn't receiving enough playing time to be anything more than a low-end option in two-catcher and NL-only formats. He checks out as a contrarian flier in daily contests Wednesday, though.

San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner and C Derek Norris are among the players the team is reportedly "pushing hard" to move ahead of the trade deadline on Sunday, July 31.
Fantasy Tip: It should come as no surprise either player is available. Cashner has been on the block for some time, while Norris brings a little pop to a position that is lacking it across the league. It helps the Padres are comfortable with backup Christian Bethancourt and also have prospect Austin Hedges waiting in the wings. Hedges is tearing it up at Class AAA El Paso, batting .367 with 17 homers and 61 RBI in 47 games. Both Bethancourt and Hedges should be on fantasy rosters should Norris get dealt.

San Diego Padres OF Melvin Upton Jr. is not in the starting lineup against Washington Nationals SP Lucas Giolito Sunday, July 24. OF Alex Dickerson will play left field and bat fifth. In addition, C Derek Norris is back in the lineup, batting eighth.
Fantasy Tip: Upton has been the subject of numerous trade rumors recently, although it does not appear as though a deal is imminent. Dickerson is batting .227 with two home runs and 10 RBI through 66 at-bats but daily fantasy owners should be able to find better options this afternoon.

San Diego Padres 1B Wil Myers is in the starting lineup batting second against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer on Saturday, July 23. OF Travis Jankowski is also back after a rest day and will hit leadoff. However, C Derek Norris will sit in favor of C Christian Bethancourt, who will fill in behind the plate and bat seventh.
Fantasy Tip: Myers sat out Friday after getting hit by a pitch for the first time all season Thursday, but the absence was not believed to be injury-related and this proves it. A bigger concern for fantasy owners is his 2-for-22 slump - something that doesn't figure to get much better with Scherzer on the mound, although he is 4-for-6 lifetime against the right-hander. Myers has been too good this season to bench, so non-DFS owners should keep starting him in hopes he can get back on track soon.

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris and SS Alexei Ramirez are not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, July 20. C Christian Bethancourt is catching and hitting seventh, while 2B Alexi Amarista is at the 6 and is batting eighth against Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez.
Fantasy Tip: Bethancourt has surprising pop with five home runs and 14 RBI as SD's backup catcher in 105 at-bats, but he's still more of a low-end sleeper pick to save salary cap space in DFS. Amarista barely moves the needle in even the deepest of fantasy leagues and is a long shot to make noise hitting low in the batting order.
